One great feature of AirPods is that you can find them in multiple ways when they get lost. While their sleek and small design is a bonus point for many users, it also means that AirPods are pretty easy to lose. Since you carry your AirPods to various places daily, there is a higher chance you misplace them somewhere.
Thanks to the recent firmware released by Apple, you can now find your AirPods Pro and AirPods Max from the “Find My” app on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or PC’s web browser. You can also make your AirPods play a sound to find them easily.
Whether you have AirPods 1st Generation, 2nd Gen, or 3rd Gen, this guide will tell you how to find AirPods on multiple devices and prevent all the hassle. So let’s get started!
How To Find AirPods on iOS and iPadOS Devices
To find AirPods from any iOS device, you must have the “Find My” app downloaded and enabled. Remember, you cannot turn on the “Find My” app after you have lost your AirPods. So it is generally a good practice to keep the feature enabled all the time.
To enable the app on your iPad, iPod, or iPhone, you first have to set it up. Once you are done, the feature will also be automatically enabled for your AirPods. Here’s how to find AirPods on iOS and iPadOS devices:
Step 1: Open the Find My App
Start by opening the “Find My” app on your iPhone or any other iOS device you are using. Its icon is like a radar system with an overall green and blue location symbol similar to the one on Apple Maps.
Step 2: Tap Devices
Once the app opens, find “Devices” and tap on it. Then, scroll through the device list and choose your AirPods.
Step 3: Tap Directions To Get the Location
The next screen will show your AirPods on Apple Maps with their last known location. Now, tap directions to get the location of your AirPods on the map with driving directions.
If finding your lost AirPods is impossible, you will see a “No Location Found” below the AirPods’ name.
The Apple maps in the Find My app may show you one of the AirPods if both pieces are in different places. To solve this issue, find the AirPods piece from the map and put it back in the charging case. Then, refresh the Apple map, and it will show you the missing AirPods piece to help you find it.

How To Make AirPods Play a Sound When Lost
The best way to find your lost Airport is by listening to its sound. AirPods making sounds—unreal, no? Surprisingly, it is real until they are in close proximity to any Apple device and connected to Bluetooth.
You can make your AirPods play a sound in the following steps:
Step 1: Choose Your AirPods
Download and open the Find My app on any device you use. It includes your iOS, iPad, Mac, or any device with your iCloud account.
Step 2: Use Your iOS Device
On your iOS device, such as the iPhone, open the app, tap on Devices, and choose your AirPods. Finally, tap on Play Sound to enable the feature.
Step 3: Enable Play Sound on Your iCloud Device
Sign in with your iCloud or Apple ID on Windows. Then, open the app, select All Devices, choose your AirPods, and click on Play Sound.
Step 4: Choose Your AirPods on Mac
On your Mac, open the Find My app and locate your AirPods name. Once you find it, tap on it on the map and click on the “Play Sound” option.
After enabling the Play Sound option on all of the above devices, your AirPods will make a distinctive sound to help you find them anywhere close by. You will have the choice to enable either your right or left AirPods for this feature. As you find your AirPods with the sound, you can then tap on Stop to end it.
What To Do If You Can’t Find Your AirPods?
If you have followed the above steps thoroughly, you’d know that the “Find My” app will sometimes send you a “No Location Found” message. When trying to find your AirPods, this notification can be a big bummer. Unfortunately, there is not a single reason for this error. Instead, many factors can cause this situation.
For example, if you forgot to install or enable your Find My app before your AirPods got lost, you may not be able to find their location. Similarly, if you didn’t charge your AirPods, you will likely receive the “No Location Found” message. Another reason could be that your iOS device and AirPods are not in range of each other.
When the Find My app shows you the “No Location Found” message, you won’t be able to play a sound from any device. However, you might get access to the location of your AirPods where they were last detected.
To prevent the “No Location Found” message, you must prevent all the above reasons. We hate to break it to you, but if none of these steps work out, you might need to buy new AirPods. The good thing is that you can get a replacement from the Apple Store if you have lost one of your AirPods.
Apple has updated the firmware of their AirPods to make them readily available whenever they are lost. However, you must install and enable the Find My app on your iOS, iPadOS, or macOS before losing your AirPods. You can even make your AirPods play a sound when they are lost.
If you have a Windows PC, you can use it to find your AirPods as well. All you have to do is sign in with your Apple ID and download the Find My app to make it possible. Hopefully, this guide gave you the answers you were looking for.
