How to Cross Out Text in Discord — Desktop Markdown Method

Some of us prefer markdown because we can do everything on our keyboard. It’s fast and simple (even for those of you unfamiliar with markdown). If you don’t want to use your mouse to cross out text on Discord, follow these steps:

Step 1: Type Two Tilde Keys

First, go to the Discord channel where you want to submit crossed out text. Before typing text, type two ~~ keys.

Note: The tilde key is found between the tab and the number one button on the top left corner of your keyboard. Type Shift and backquote to get the tilde symbol.

Step 2: Type Your Text

Now, hit space and type the text you want to strike out.

Step 3: Type Two Tilde Keys Again

Hit space again and type two more ~~ keys when you’re finished crossing out text. Then hit Enter on your keyboard to post.

Note: The text will have a line through it before you submit it if you performed the steps properly. If you don’t see the strike, ensure there is a space between the text and the tilde key.

How to Cross Out Text on Discord — Desktop Highlight Method

If you prefer a more foolproof method, you can highlight the text and select the strikethrough symbol. The steps are easy, just do this:

Step 1: Type Your Text

Start the process by typing your text in the chat box, but don’t submit it until you complete the steps.

Step 2: Highlight Your Text

Use your cursor or double-click the text to highlight it.

Step 3: Click the Strikethrough Symbol

Now, click the Strikethrough symbol on the typing menu. You’ll see the text crossed out in the chat box. Hit the Enter key on your keyboard to submit the text.

How to Cross Out Text on Discord — Mobile App

Those using the Discord mobile app can also cross out text on Discord. The steps are similar to those above where we talked about using markdown to cross out text. Of course, it’s still a pretty simple process. The only drawback to the mobile app is that your keyboard layout will vary, thus making it more challenging to find the tilde key.

Here’s what to do:

Step 1: Type the Double Tilde Key

Open the Discord channel where you want to cross out text and type the tilde key two times.

Note: Whether you’re using the Android, iOS, GBoard, or another keyboard, tap the symbols icon and browse the options until you see the ~ key. You may need to tap the symbols icon more than once.

Step 2: Type Your Text

Now, add a space between the tilde key and your text. Then, type the text you want to strike out.

Step 3: Type the Double Tilde Key

Finally, hit space again and type two more tilde keys.
