How to Create a Threads Account

Step 2: Get Your Threads Invite

Once you’ve signed in to Instagram, click on the menu button in the top right corner of your profile page. Select “Threads” at the top of the list.

When you click the button, a new window will open with a virtual ticket to use the new Threads app. Click on the ticket to download the Threads app.

Step 3: Download the Threads App

Clicking the virtual ticket should take you directly to the Threads page on the app store. This will vary slightly depending on your device, but all you have to do next is download the Threads app.

Then, enter your app store credentials if requested. Finally, wait for the installation to complete.

Step 4: Launch the Threads App

Once the installation is complete, go ahead and find the Threads app on your device. Once opened, you will see a box to log in with your Instagram account at the bottom of the screen. Click on the box and enter your Instagram account username and password.

Step 5: Add Account Information

Since Threads uses your Instagram credentials, all of your account information is tied together. Most importantly, your Threads account name will be the same as the one on Instagram. You can add a bio and links, or you can import them from your Instagram profile.

Like other social networking sites, Threads offers different privacy options. They are pretty basic, with just a choice between a public or private profile.

Setting an account to private means only your approved followers can see your posts. Alternatively, anyone can see a public profile, even if they do not follow you.

Next, Threads gives you the option to automatically pull all of your followers from Instagram. You can either select to follow all of them or individually pick the people you wish to follow.

Keep in mind that the list of followers is made up of Instagram users, which does not mean those people are actually on Threads yet.

Lastly, you have to confirm that you wish to sign up for Threads. Click the “Join Threads” button, and you will get a personalized Threads feed based on the people you follow.

Create Other Threads Accounts

By now, you may be wondering what happens if you have multiple Instagram accounts, such as for personal and business uses. Threads operates very similarly to Instagram when it comes to managing these accounts.

To get started, go back to your Instagram account and make sure that you’ve signed into your other accounts so they stay connected.

You can also take this time to create a new Instagram account to use with Threads. After checking that all of the accounts that you want to use with Threads have been signed into, close the Instagram app. Then, go back to the Threads app. In Threads, you must log out of your account from the profile menu.

Once signed out, you should see all of your connected Instagram accounts. Because Threads is just pulling the accounts from Instagram, you will still need to set up each account’s privacy, bio, and followers separately. Unfortunately, you will need to log out each time you switch accounts.

Alternative Ways to Sign Up for Threads

Threads is limited to only Instagram users because it still hasn’t received a full rollout. This means people with other Meta accounts, such as Facebook, cannot use those credentials to sign up.

When Meta makes Threads available for everyone, you will be able to create an account without needing to use Instagram. In the meantime, the only way to use Threads is by first creating an Instagram account.

Also, you can only access Threads through a mobile device such as a cell phone. Web browsers cannot access Threads at this time.
