Do you know how to change your age on your Discord account? Unfortunately, it isn’t the easiest or fastest process, but don’t fret. We’ll show you how to do it!
It may come as a surprise to some of our readers that changing your age or birthdate on social media or other accounts is actually a security issue. Therefore, companies like Discord implemented policies where changing your age has to be reviewed by a Trust & Safety team.
While you can’t take a quick trip to your account settings and update your birthday, you can get help from Discord, and that part of the process is pretty simple. So, let’s dive in!
The Rules of Changing Your Age on Discord
As briefly mentioned above, Discord is incredibly stringent on its age policy. If you’re wondering why they’ve made changing your age so difficult, it all boils down to legalities. Many companies have been sued for online activity involving minors.
So, to protect themselves, the company has a few requirements for users who need to change their age (and of course, if you’re caught lying about your age, they will terminate your account).
Before we teach you how to change your age on Discord, let’s first cover some ground rules:
- You must be of the legal age for Discord use in your country (most countries are 13 and up, but others are 14, 15, or 16 years and older).
- You must be old enough to legally accept Discord’s T&C’s (meaning a legal adult in your home country). If you aren’t, a parent or guardian must consent.
- Discord users must be able to prove their age. A state-issued ID, driver’s license, or any photo ID that has your age on it will be required.
- You must be a legal adult in your country to access NSFW servers.
It’s important that you’re honest about your real age when using Discord. Not only does lying about your age lead to trouble for you, but it can jeopardize the company.
Assuming you meet the criteria above, let’s change your age on Discord.
How to Change Your Age on Discord: Step-by-Step Guide
The process to fill out the forms are so simple, anyone can do it. Follow these steps to request an age change!
Step 1: Go to the Discord Website
We’ll start by going to the Trust & Safety site here.
Note: If you’re locked out of your account, skip to the next section and file an appeal.
Step 2: Click Submit a Request
You can log into your Discord account if you’d like, but it isn’t a necessity. Click Submit a Request in the top right corner of the page.
Step 3: Select Appeals & Age Update Requests
Discord has a specific option for those who need help to change their age.
Click the first dropdown box and select Appeals & Age Update Requests. Then, fill out the rest of the form.
Input an email address that you can access, and click Update my age information in the second dropdown. Finally, add a subject line and description.
Helpful hint: You may have to scroll through the dropdown menu to see the correct option. Hover your cursor over the dropdown menu and scroll.
Step 4: Write Your Username on Paper
Discord needs a photo for proof that you really are the age you claim before they’ll change it. Start out by grabbing a piece of paper and writing your Discord username.
Make sure your username is legible and looks really good on camera. The bright side here is that you can really show off your handwriting skills if you want.
Step 5: Take a Picture of Your Photo ID and Username
Now, lay your photo ID and the paper with your username next to each other. Make sure everything is legible (especially your username and birthday). Then, take a picture.
Step 6: Upload Your Photo
Next, upload the photo to the form we filled out in step 3. You can do this by clicking the Add File button at the bottom of the page and choosing the picture you took in Step 5.
Step 7: Submit
Finally, click the Submit button at the bottom of the page.
How to Change Your Age on Discord if Your Account is Locked
If your account is already locked because you need to change your age, you must file an appeal. Discord’s Trust & Safety team will need the same information we listed in the first section, but the process is slightly different.
Follow these steps to file an appeal and change your age.
Step 1: Go to the Discord Website
First, head over to this website here where you can initiate an appeal regarding your age.
Step 2: Select Appeals & Age Updates
Next, click the first dropdown box and select Appeals & Age Updates in the menu.
Step 3: Click Appeal an Action Taken on My Account or Bot
Input your email address and click the second dropdown menu. Then, click Appeal an Action Taken on My Account or Bot.
Step 4: Click Add File
Fill out the rest of the information and click Add File.
Step 5: Upload a Picture of Your Photo ID and Username Together
Take a picture of your username and photo ID in the same frame. Then, select that photo from your computer.
Note: If you don’t have Airdrop, you can easily email yourself the picture from your smartphone and download it to your computer.
Step 6: Submit Your Appeal
When all of the information and files are uploaded, click Submit at the bottom of the page.
Discord’s Trust & Safety team will review your appeal and reinstate your account after you prove your age.
You’ve finally made it through and tutorial and, hopefully, Discord will change your age shortly. Keep an eye on your emails because the company may request more information and they’ll send you updates.
While it isn’t easy to change your age on Discord, the good news is that it isn’t impossible either. As long as you can lawfully use Discord in your country, you shouldn’t have any problems with the process above.
