Alexa has a new masculine voice option and a couple of celebrity voices you might also recognize. These features are available for all Alexa Echo Dots unless you use a first-generation model. This guide shows you how to change Alexa’s voice in 6 easy steps and set your Alexa in bilingual mode to listen and respond to multiple languages.
Before you attempt anything, make sure Alexa app is installed on your phone. If, for some reason, you deleted the app after initially setting up your Echo Dot, no worries. You can always reinstall it and connect it to your Dot again. Make sure you are connected to the same Wi-Fi as the Echo Dot.

For the masculine options, choose whichever dialect you like, then select the second one. Note that when you tap on the options, it will play an example of the voice on your phone.
You can also change the speaking rate your Alexa will respond to you.
Changing Alexa’s Voice on Your Echo
This method is even quicker than method 1. You can change Alexa’s voice by simply just asking it to. To change Alexa’s voice, say, “Alexa, Change Your Voice.” Alexa will then run through the options you have to choose from. The first one it usually goes to is the masculine voice for whichever dialect you have chosen. If you don’t like any other voice options, you can say “Alexa Change Your Voice” again and select the original voice you had set. Usually, this is the first option that comes up.
Change Alexa’s Voice to a Celebrity
If you want to talk to a celebrity instead of Alexa all day, you can easily change your Alexa to respond with either Shaqueil O’Neil’s or Melissa McCarthy’s voice. There used to be more options, but currently, you are only able to choose from these two, and they both cost a one-time payment of $4.99
1. Ask for an Introduction
To start the process, you nicely ask your Alexa to introduce you to your celebrity of choice by saying, “Alexa introduce me to (either Shaq or Melissa McCarthy)” Then Alexa will introduce you and explain what each person’s voice is capable of doing for you.
2. Confirm Your Purchase
If you like the voice you chose to be introduced to, Alexa will ask you to confirm your payment of $4.99, and you can do this by just saying “Yes” when she asks you. The default payment mode on your Amazon account will be charged.
Before making the purchase, it is worth noting that these two celebrities cannot help you with everything Alexa can. For example, they can’t help you with shopping, lists, reminders, or skills.
3. Accessing the New Celebrity Voice
To wake your Alexa now, instead of saying “Hey Alexa” you will now say “Hey (either Shaq or Melissa McCarthy)” to speak with your new celebrity voice.
