HelloFresh is one of several meal kit companies to come about in the last decade or so. As a matter of fact, HelloFresh might be the most popular of the bunch (or, at the very least, the most recognizable by name alone). For this reason, plenty of people have HelloFresh subscriptions.
More than seven million, as a matter of fact. That’s quite a hold on the meal kit market, to be sure. Alas, not everyone wants to be a HelloFresh subscriber forever. For this reason, it’s worth knowing exactly how to cancel HelloFresh.
Thankfully, we’ve compiled all the steps here for you. Complete with easy-to-follow instructions and helpful photos to illustrate, too. No matter if you’re getting tired of HelloFresh’s rotation of meals or you simply want to try out another meal kit company for a change, it’s important to know exactly how to cancel HelloFresh.
Even if you’re a satisfied HelloFresh customer with no intention of leaving the subscription service anytime soon, it’s nevertheless useful to have this knowledge should you ever need it. Find out how below.
Why Cancel HelloFresh?
HelloFresh first emerged in Berlin, Germany in November 2011. HelloFresh’s meal kit delivery company was one of the very first in the industry, allowing subscribers to order daily, weekly, or monthly pre-portioned, partially-prepared meal ingredients with recipes to cook at home.
At the start, company founders Jessica Nilsson, Thomas Griesel, and Dominik Richter even hand-packed and hand-delivered the meal kits themselves. After a few years, the company had spread across countries and continents to reach over one million subscribers.
Now far too big for Griesel and Richter to do the packing and delivering, HelloFresh soon held nearly 50% of the meal kit market by 2017. One year later, HelloFresh surpassed the previous top company Blue Apron.
By 2021, the company was raking in nearly six billion annually (and with room to grow, too). And yet, even in spite of HelloFresh’s success, there’s no denying the meal kit market isn’t for everyone. There are several reasons why you might want to cancel your subscription in addition to the ones listed above.
For one, HelloFresh still requires you to cook. This is a disadvantage in the eyes of those who’d prefer to order fully cooked meals instead. Secondly, it’s difficult to find gluten-free or other allergen-free options from HelloFresh.
The same goes for those looking for exclusively vegan, paleo, or keto meals. What’s more, there’s also an $11 shipping fee per HelloFresh meal kit — something that many subscribers just aren’t able to look past. Ultimately, whatever your reasoning may be, you deserve to know how to cancel HelloFresh.
How to Cancel HelloFresh
To cancel your HelloFresh subscription, simply follow the steps below. To resubscribe, you’ll simply need to log into your canceled account and click Reactivate Now. With this, your subscription will restart.
Step One: Go to Your Account Settings

To begin, you’ll want to log into your HelloFresh account. After that, click on your name in the top right corner. You’ll see a menu drop-down. From here, click the option that says Account Settings. This will take you to the appropriate page.
Step Two: Scroll Down to Plan Settings

On the Account Settings page, you’ll need to scroll down until you see Plan Settings. Click this page. At this point, you’ll be taken to a page that lists the details of your plan. Scroll down, and you should see a heading labeled Status. Underneath, you’ll see a button that says Cancel Plan. Click this to cancel.
Step Three: Follow the Prompts On Screen

Before making it official, HelloFresh is going to ask you a few questions about why you’re canceling your account. This will help them get a better idea of why you’re leaving so they can make improvements for future subscribers. You don’t really have to do it to confirm your cancelation, but it doesn’t hurt, either.
Once the survey has been completed (or skipped), HelloFresh will ask you to confirm your cancelation. If you’re sure you’d like to cancel, then click Confirm. If you’re having second thoughts, you can back out here. If you do decide not to cancel, simply exit the page without clicking Confirm.
Alternative Option: Downgrade Your HelloFresh Plan

If you want to know how to cancel HelloFresh because you feel it’s too expensive (or simply too much food for you and your household), there’s another option besides canceling. You can just downgrade your HelloFresh plan to a more suitable one instead.
HelloFresh gives subscribers a whole slew of options for their meal kits. You can even change the type of meals you primarily receive depending on some basic dietary restrictions (such as vegetarian and pescatarian). To alter your plan, just go to Plan Settings.
From there, you can edit your preferences between six different options: Meat & Veggies, Veggie, Family Friendly, Fit & Wholesome, Quick and Easy, and Pescatarian.
You’ll still be seeing the same number of recipes each week, but these preferences will simply adjust the order in which you see them.
If your preferences all look fine, you can edit the number of people you’re cooking for as well as the number of recipes per week.
Tweaking these options will change the amount of money your HelloFresh subscription will cost you each month. Cutting back can help you keep your account without having to cancel while still saving you some money in the end.
