Venmo is one of the best apps for sending funds while also keeping up with friends. Fortunately, it’s also easy to use and full of neat features. One of the best features it has is the ability to add money instantly. Whether you prefer the mobile app or the web browser, we’ll show you how to do it!

Adding Money to Venmo Instantly – Prerequisites

The process of adding money instantly to Venmo is quite simple. However, the prerequisites are lengthy and must be completed before you attempt instant money transfers.

Instant money transfers on Venmo are different from adding or sending money. Most transactions where you’re adding money to your bank account or adding money to Venmo from your account take 3 to 5 business days. Venmo added instant money transfers as a way to help consumers transfer funds faster. However, you can’t use the feature until you get a Venmo debit card and link your bank account.

Before following the steps below, ensure you have the following:

  • An active Venmo account.
  • A Venmo debit card.
  • You’ve linked your bank account (just linking your debit cards will not work).

Once you have all of these things ready, you can follow the steps below to transfer money to Venmo instantly!

Other Ways to Add Money to Venmo

Unfortunately, adding money to Venmo instantly isn’t an option for everyone. You must link your bank account and get your Venmo debit card before you can add funds. Naturally, we wouldn’t leave our amazing readers without solutions, though.

If you really need to add money to Venmo right now, you aren’t completely out of luck. There are still some ways you can use Venmo to process payments quickly. Of course, you can add your Venmo debit card to Apple Pay, but that doesn’t really help us if you don’t already have your debit card. So here are a few other options for getting money into your Venmo account.

Venmo Direct Deposit

If you use your Venmo account frequently, it may be a good idea to set up Direct Deposit. You can find your Venmo account and routing number in the Settings on the Venmo app. Tap the Me icon, then tap Settings, and Direct Deposit.

Copy the two numbers and fill out your company’s direct deposit paperwork with the Venmo account and routing number. Most employers even let you set a certain amount to go to this account, and the rest to your main bank account.

Have Someone Send You Money

If you’re really in a bind and need to add money to your Venmo account instantly, you could have a friend or family member send it to you. The money will appear in your Venmo account balance instantly, and you can take care of your business.

All another Venmo user has to do is search for your account and submit a transaction. The process is simple, and it’s the best way to add money to your Venmo account if the steps above aren’t working for you. Of course, do keep in mind that it takes some time to transfer money back to your bank account. So, we hope you’re trying to pay with Venmo.

Add Money to Venmo – Wrap Up

You’d think adding money to Venmo wouldn’t have so many rules and prerequisites. Unfortunately, it does. Hopefully, you have time to set everything up before you really need the feature. But if you don’t, you can try another payment method, or have a friend send you some coins (with the promise that you’ll pay them back, naturally).

Fortunately, once you get everything set up, adding money is pretty simple. Just follow the steps above and keep money in your Venmo account!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why didn't my funds transfer instantly?

Assuming you have a linked bank account (not a debit card) and you followed the steps above, your money should appear instantly. However, Venmo may delay transactions for security reasons. Of course, you must also have a Venmo debit card.

How do I cancel a balance transfer on Venmo?

Unfortunately, you can’t. When you initiate adding money to Venmo, there’s no way to stop it before the transaction completes. If you made an error, the only way to correct it is to transfer the funds back into your bank account.

What is the Venmo debit card?

The Venmo debit card is a Mastercard debit that’s linked to your Venmo account (as opposed to standard debit cards that are linked to your bank account). You can use the Venmo debit card anywhere you can use Mastercard and it pulls a balance directly from your Venmo account.

Unlike the Venmo credit card, there’s no credit check required and you don’t have to provide your entire social security number (only the last 4 digits).

Can I add money to Venmo using the website?

Unfortunately, no. The only way to add money to Venmo is by using the mobile app.

Does Venmo charge a fee for adding or withdrawing funds?

Yes. Venmo users will get charged a 1.75% transaction fee for withdrawing funds, and based on our experience, we see it when adding funds too. The fee is a minimum of $0.25 to a maximum of $25. So, depending on how much money you’re working with, the fee may be higher or lower. But it won’t exceed $25 for an instant transfer.

However, Venmo does not charge monthly fees, and standard transactions are completely free. The only time you’ll pay extra is if you can’t wait for the funds to move.

How long do standard transfers take?

If you can’t do an instant transfer, you aren’t entirely out of luck. You can still do a transfer, but it will take 3 to 5 business days. Also, keep in mind that business days don’t include weekends. If you have a three-day weekend coming up, expect it to take even longer.

What do I do if my money didn't move?

If you do an instant transfer to your Venmo account, the money should appear immediately (even if you don’t see it come out of your bank just yet — that takes 3-5 business days sometimes). If the money doesn’t appear, and especially doesn’t appear within five days, contact Venmo Support for more help.
