Roblox is a free gaming platform where creators can design various games for people to play together. Since game developers have access to a wide range of tools, there are countless types of games on the Roblox platform, from Battle Royales to Pet Simulators, and everything in between.

What makes it even better is Roblox is a cross-platform game, across pretty much every platform, including mobile. Maybe you found a fun Roblox game you want to play with a friend but can’t figure out how to add friends on Roblox with Xbox. Don’t worry, I was confused, too.

What you need to know is you can’t add friends directly with the Xbox version of Roblox. If you couldn’t find a menu for friends, that’s the reason. When you’re done with this guide, you’ll know exactly how to add Roblox friends using Xbox and you’ll be gaming with your buddy in no time.

How to Add Friends on Roblox Xbox

To add (or accept) friend requests, you need to access Roblox via its official website. Log in, then type your friend’s name into the “People” category.

When you find your friend, select “Add Friend” and you’ll send them a friend request. You can do that using the Microsoft Edge browser on Xbox or your phone. Roblox on Xbox doesn’t allow you to send or accept friend requests, you have to use the website.

1. Send Friend Request Through a Web Browser

Note: This may be easier to do on a phone or another device where your login credentials are saved.

Open My Games and Apps, select Apps, and open Microsoft Edge. Type in Roblox.com and sign in to your account. Next, type your friend’s name into the search bar at the top of the screen. Make sure to search in the “People” category.

Select their profile from the list and click on the Add Friend button to send them a friend request.

2. Accept Roblox Friend Request on Xbox

The next step is to get your friend to accept your friend request. They may not receive a notification when they’re in the Xbox version of Roblox.

To view friend requests, access the Roblox website using a web browser, expand the menu on the left-hand side, and select Friends. In the Requests tab, you will see your friend requests.

Once they have accepted your friend request, open Roblox on your Xbox and select the Friends tab. It should show your new friend here. From now on, you can directly join Roblox experiences with your friend.

A quick pointer to keep in mind is if your friend already linked their Roblox account to Xbox Live, then you’ll automatically be added as a friend.

How to Join Friends on Roblox with Xbox

Joining friends on Roblox is easy but the steps will vary slightly depending on your platform. Roblox is also available on the Oculus Quest.

With Roblox App

Once you have accepted a friend request, you will see your friend’s activity on the main menu of Roblox. From there, you can click on their profile and select “Join Experience.”

On Xbox

On Xbox, you can also directly join Roblox Experiences through the Xbox friend list. It will launch the game and automatically connect to the same server.

To do that, press the Xbox button on your controller to open the overlay. Tap Right Bumper for the People tab and select your friends. Select the friend you wish to join, press A on your controller, and choose Join Game. Roblox will open and it should automatically put you in the same Roblox game as your friend.

Invite Friends to Your Experience

If you made an experience with Roblox, you need to check the Permissions before inviting friends. To invite friends to your Roblox Experience, publish it, and set the Permissions to Public.

Can’t Join Roblox Friends on Xbox?

In some cases, you can see your friend’s activity on Roblox, but there won’t be an option to join their experience. The most common solution is to double-check that Cross-Platform Play is enabled. It’s usually enabled by default, but it could be disabled on one person’s account.

If you’re on Xbox and your friend is on PC, you won’t be able to play together unless Cross-Platform Play is enabled on both of your accounts. Don’t worry, it’s very easy to enable.

Enable Cross-Platform Play

Open Roblox and in the bottom right corner you’ll see a blue button for Settings with the input button to open it. On Xbox tap X to open Settings.

In Settings, select Account, and you’ll see a toggle button for Cross-Platform Play. If it’s enabled on your end, make sure it’s enabled on your friend’s device too — every person in your party needs to have it enabled. Devices that use the Google Play store, such as Chromebooks, can also run Roblox.

Check Join Permissions

Most of the time, the default permissions will allow friends to join your Roblox experiences. However, in some cases, the setting could have been disabled. You can’t check these settings from inside the Roblox game. You need to use the browser like you did to send and accept friend requests.

Head over to the Roblox website, log in, and open Settings in the top right corner. Next, click on Privacy, and scroll down until you see Other Settings. Make sure the “Who Can Join Me in Experiences?” option is set to “Friends” and not “No One.”

Restart Roblox

There are times when everyone has the correct settings enabled but they’re still unable to join one another in Roblox. Unfortunately, it seems like a common bug that happens from time to time. What you can do is force quit the Roblox game and try again.

Re-Install Roblox

Luckily, Roblox is under 1GB and can be re-installed in a matter of minutes. I suggest uninstalling it from your Xbox and re-installing it. Most of the time, that fixes the issue.

In many cases, the problem will go away with time. It may be some issue with server lag or your internet connection which should be resolved automatically. Most of the people who ran into this problem had it go away after a few days.
