HGTV on DISH Network

HGTV launched in December 1994 with an emphasis on home improvement. While the network’s programming has largely remained unchained over the years, there’s more of a focus on reality-based content today.

When you tune into HGTV, you’ll find programs revolving around remodeling and real estate. How much of the reality is unscripted is up for debate, but there’s no shortage of content throughout the year on this popular network.

You can access HGTV on DISH Network through any of the company’s subscription plans. That includes the America’s Top 120, 200, and 250 plans along with the Flex Pack. The channel is broadcast in HD on DISH through all four plans.

HGTV Programming

It’s safe to say there’s not much variety throughout the day with HGTV’s programming schedule. That’s not a bad thing, given the network’s niche, as you can find the same type of shows on at noon or 3 AM when you’re struggling to sleep.

Whether you enjoy HGTV with a cup of coffee in the morning or in the late afternoon, there’s plenty of reality programming revolving around home improvement. That includes newer content along with shows from the network’s major franchises. It’s not uncommon to find shows aired in blocks, although they occasionally mix things up.

You’ll also find yearly specials through HGTV on DISH Network with Urban Oasis, Smart Home, and the HGTV Dream Home. This program is part reality show, part sweepstakes, as it gives people a chance to win a million-dollar home. While dozens of Dream Homes have been built since the series premiere in 1997, the winners rarely keep the homes.

At present, there are more than 40 series airing on HGTV. A dozen new series launched in 2023, like Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge, Fix My Frankenhouse, and Renovation Resort Showdown. While many shows are new, the network has a variety of franchises from older originals. Two of their biggest are House Hunters and Property Brothers.

House Hunters

House Hunters is HGTV’s flagship series and a show that draws in millions of viewers with each new episode. The premise is simple, as the crew follows people around who are hunting for a new home. How much reality is involved is up for debate, but it’s a popular show that’s launched several spin-offs.

The oldest show affiliated with House Hunters is the aptly named House Hunters International, which debuted in 2006. It’s still going strong alongside House Hunters Renovation, which took a brief hiatus but came back in 2023.

House Hunters Off The Grid, Tiny House Hunters, House Hunters Family, House Hunters on Vacation, House Hunters Outside the Box, and House Hunters International Renovation are other series from the franchise. These shows have ended, but they are still popular options for fans of the channel.

Property Brothers

Jonathan and Drew Scott are also mainstays on HGTV. The Property Brothers have been on the air since 2011, and these twins have global reach. The original aired more than 170 episodes and has launched a variety of spin-offs over the years, along with several short films.

Currently, you can catch the original or Property Brothers: Forever Home. Brother vs. Brother is another long-running show from the franchise that pit the twins against one another. Other shows from the brothers include the Property Brothers At Home, and Brothers Take New Orleans.

HGTV Sister Stations

HGTV is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery through a merger with Scripps in 2018. While there are a number of sister stations affiliated with HGTV through their parent company, none are tied directly to HGTV. The closest channels with comparable content are the Travel Channel and Food Network. While neither airs reality renovation content, both channels were part of the Scripps merger.
