HART 40V Cordless Mower vs. EGO 56V Mower: Which One Wins?

RYOBI 40V DeWalt 40V

HART 40V Cordless Mower vs. EGO 56V Mower: Which One Wins?

Electric lawn mowers pose many benefits over a gasoline-powered equivalent. There is no fooling with fuel mixtures, concerns with spark plugs, or the myriad of other issues which can arise in the routine maintenance and care of a motor. While batteries might not operate quite as long as fuel, they are also safer and cleaner for the environment.

Walmart’s in-house HART brand has a powerful 40-volt cordless mower that easily competes with the quality and performance of a gas mower. How does it stack up against the EGO Power+ 56-volt cordless mower? Both these mowers are cost-effective replacements for their gasoline-powered equivalents.

Let’s take a look at the specs, the quality of their mowing, and the included accessories to determine which one is going to be right for your purposes.

HART 40V Cordless Mower vs. EGO 56V Mower: What’s the Difference?

While both of these mowers bear some similarities, there are rather stark differences between the two. Most notable is the differences in overall runtime and availability, as the HART mower is only available from Walmart in the United States.

Performance

Both mowers have identical cutting height adjustments, allowing for close trims with a 1-inch height or slightly shaggier at a 4-inch height. This is fairly standard across electric and gas mowers.

The HART cordless mower has a much lesser run time on the included battery, running for up to a half hour on a single charge. This is mitigated slightly by the battery bay included on the mower, allowing for users to carry a second battery to extend cutting time. Operational time is greatly extended on the EGO Power+ 56-volt Cordless Mower, accounting for 45 minutes in nominal conditions on a single charge. Part of this can come down to battery capacity of course, and there is a range of additional batteries of varying sizes available for both brands.

Charging times vary quite a bit between both mowers, with the HART mower taking far more time to charge a battery to full. EGO’s mower comes with a fast charger, taking the charge time to full from hours to around 40 or so minutes.

Both mowers are certainly capable of professional-looking trims, and both do come with included accessories to cover mulching and disposal of clippings. If you’re looking for a mower that runs longer and charges faster, the EGO Power+ 56-volt mower is the way to go. The HART is a great mower but it is ultimately limited by battery capacity and slower charging times.

Pricing and Availability

HART is solely available through Walmart, and functions as their in-house brand for a variety of power tools. The 40-volt cordless mower has an MSRP of $298, with other models having rising costs for greater battery capacity and accessories.

EGO stocks their mowers at a variety of retailers and is readily available from places like Lowes, Home Depot, and Amazon, among others. The EGO Power+ 56-volt cordless mower has a suggested retail price of $399.99, a fairly large amount compared to its competitor.

EGO gets points for greater availability, as deal hunters might be able to score the Power+ for less on sale. HART being available solely through a single store isn’t a bad thing necessarily, but it does hamper the ability to bargain hunt through multiple outlets.

Warranty

Both mowers have a five-year warranty, with certain caveats as one might expect. The HART mower has a limited five-year warranty, which solely covers defective components. This covers home use, with commercial use for corporate entities only extending out to 90 days from the time of purchase.

EGO has a similar warranty which covers defective parts and a five-year span for household use. Commercial or agricultural use sees a year of coverage being extended, which is quite substantial compared to HART’s.

While comprehensive service and parts replacement isn’t directly covered, EGO does get a slight edge for its warranty simply due to the extended coverage period for commercial use. Functionally for homes they’re identical, and it really comes down to which mower you prefer when considering the manufacturer’s warranty.

HART 40V Cordless Mower vs. EGO 56V Mower: Which One is Better?

Picking a cordless mower can be rather difficult with all the solid options across similar price points. In the case of the HART 40V Cordless Mower and the EGO 56V Mower, the edge goes to the EGO Power+. It does cost more but it is a better performer in the areas where it counts. The greater battery capacity, faster charging rate, and slightly wider cutting area makes for an efficient and well-design mower.

The HART isn’t a bad mower by an any measure, but it has issues with capacity and charging time. The presence of a battery bay does a fair bit to ease the charging woes, but depending on your grass, it might not be enough to cover your lawn with an additional battery on board. The slider for adjusting the self-propelled speed is also a little touchy and can be difficult to dial in an ideal speed. Limited availability also hinders HART. While Walmarts are all across the United States, it makes hunting for the best deals a tougher effort.

Possible Future Updates for the HART 40V Cordless Mower and the EGO 56V Mower

  • Solar-powered mowers: Solar-powered mowers would be even more environmentally friendly.

HART 40V Cordless Mower vs. EGO 56V Mower: Which One Wins? FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

Which mower has better capacity with the included battery?

The EGO mower has a larger battery than the HART as well as a longer operational time. There is the added bonus of batteries for both mowers being compatible with the full range of tools available from both manufacturers.

EGO also gets the edge when it comes to charging, as getting a full charge takes considerably less time to get your mower back in action. The HART 40V mower can take hours to charge a single battery.

Which mowing gives the trim?

If considering all things are ideal and the grass is dry, they both turn out a fairly admirable trim. Height adjustments are identical between the two mowers, so you can get a fairly close shave so to speak for your lawn. The only real consideration is the slightly wider cutting area of the EGO 56v mower. It is a scant difference, and shouldn’t affect your mowing.

Do cordless mowers need routine service?

Not nearly as much as a gas mower, but you will be replacing parts occasionally. It isn’t quite as intensive as a gas mower, but things like blades and wheels may need replacement with accumulated wear and tear.

How should I store my electric mower?

If there is space available in your storage area, then a cool dry location should be ideal. They can be stored outside, of course, but you would likely want to remove the battery from the unit before leaving it outside. This is especially true if you live in an area that gets quite hot or cold, as the temperature variances can reduce the life of your battery.

Can an electric mower trim a yard as quickly as a gas mower?

All things equal, they should perform similarly. The only area where the gas mower will likely excel is in overall operational time.
