GoPro is undoubtedly one of the top action cameras. A couple of weeks ago, GoPro announced their new flagship model, the Hero 11. It has the same body as the previous two GoPros, the Hero 10 and 9. So, looking at these two cameras from the outside, it seems they are not that different. However, with the features packed into the 11, you might be tempted to upgrade.

Design

What’s the difference in design when comparing GoPro Hero 10 vs. 11? As we said in the introduction, these two cameras share the same body mold, so there is little to say about the design. But if you have never used a GoPro before, there is a good reason this body has been the same for the last three models. The compact box design is perfect for various mounting options while staying completely waterproof.

The hydrophobic lens coating introduced with the Hero 10 has also made its way over to the Hero 11 Black. This lens coating makes a pretty big difference to your footage, especially if you make a lot of water or snow sports videos.

Video and Photo Capture

With a new camera model, you would hope there is a clear difference in video quality. Unfortunately, that is not always the case, but the Hero 11 avoids that trend. With the 8:7 sensor size, you can easily record content for both YouTube and TikTok simultaneously.

The Hero 11 comes with HyperSmooth 5.0 with Horizon Lock to ensure footage remains steady even if you rotate the camera 360 degrees. An update from the HyperSmooth 4.0 stabilization in the Hero 10. We found HyperSmooth 4.0 incredible across many modes and use cases, so we will have to see how good HyperSmooth 5.0 is in the real world.

The Hero 11 now boasts 10-bit color video, which provides 1 billion shades of red, blue, and green (versus the 16.7 million offered by 8-bit) to help footage appear more life-like. This is more geared towards professional videographers and editors, but the more casual user can benefit from this upgrade in color depth.

Price

For some people, a new camera means one thing, the previous generation will now be more affordable. That is the case with the GoPro Hero 11 and 10. The 10 is currently around $50 less than the 11. When it comes down to it, that extra $50 can be a make-or-break scenario.

As far as price to performance goes, if you are excited by the new aspect ratio that the GoPro Hero 11 has, it will be worth the extra $50. But if you are mostly filming for horizontal or traditional video formats, the Hero 10 has about the same feature set for $50 less.

GoPro Hero 10 vs. Hero 11: 4 Must-Know Facts

GoPro Hero 10 vs. Hero 11: Which One Is Better? Which One Should You Use?

The GoPro Hero 10 and Hero 11 are excellent cameras. The choice of one over the other depends on a couple of things. First, you must ask yourself, does the new aspect ratio, horizon lock, and more color depth matter to you? If yes, we recommend upgrading or going for the Hero 11 instead of 10. As we have seen previously, GoPro will give us a good amount of firmware and feature updates during this camera’s lifespan, making it viable for the long term.

But, if all those features seem much to you, and you won’t fully use them, go with the Hero 10 and save an extra $50. You can find a used one in the GoPro market, by the way. Even if they are not Hero 10s, many people will want to upgrade and get rid of their older camera.
