While the iPhone parades around the same tired design, the Google Pixel 7 tries something new. Some buyers may love the iPhone for its familiarity, and feel that a perfect design doesn’t need changing. However, if you’re looking for a unique and modern take on the phone, the Pixel 7 brings something fresh to the table.

The Goole Pixel is made of 100% recycled aluminum, making it an environmentally friendly design choice. With a slightly textured finish, the aluminum on this phone appears more like a piece of jewelry than a phone. Additionally, the two-tone color pattern is a distinct shift from previous design patterns, as we saw on the Pixel 6.

Display

Both phones go head-to-head until you get to the display. This is an area where the iPhone really stands out. The OLED display pops with amazingly vibrant color thanks to Apple’s latest Super Retina XDR technology. With features like HDR, wide-color, and True Tone color, this display comes alive in your hand. It’s perfect for watching movies on Netflix or Hulu.

Looking at the Pixel’s display after looking at the iPhone’s feels like going back in time. The 90hz refresh rate, while competitive with last year’s models, is falling further behind the curve already. Additionally, with the same aspect ratio and resolution as the Pixel 6, Google is sticking with dated technology.

That’s not to say the Pixel 7 has a bad display. The Pixel 7 is a massive upgrade compared to entry-level phones, even more so when the bezels have shrunk since last year’s model, and the peak brightness is significantly better. However, the iPhone 14 Plus definitely holds the crown for the best display.

Camera

Both the Pixel 7 and the iPhone 14 Plus offer a competitive camera package. But a few distinct differences set them apart. Most notably, the iPhone is equipped with two 12MP rear-facing cameras—one to serve as the main camera and one to serve as an ultrawide lens with a 120-degree field of view. On the other hand, the Pixel 7 has a 50MP rear camera, accompanied by a 12MP ultrawide lens.

The Pixel 7 takes stunning photos, and the results are even more breathtaking when you factor in the various after-effects available to enhance your shots. With an excellent dynamic range, you can shoot in low light or intense lighting conditions without losing image clarity. Additional camera modes like long exposure, action pan, and cinematic mode give you further control over your photos.

Although the iPhone 14 Plus doesn’t have the massive megapixel count of the Pixel, the camera quality is still superb, thanks to a few factors. Apple’s Photonic Engine drives the image processor, resulting in more detailed pictures and better low-light performance.

Both phones have satisfactory front-facing cameras for endless selfies. Google employs algorithms to set the appropriate background blue and focus levels depending on conditions. Apple also has a pleasing portrait mode on the iPhone 14 Plus to make your selfies pop.

Software

The Android vs. iOS battle has raged on for years now. In the case of the Pixel 7 vs. iPhone 14, you’re looking at the latest release from each platform. Both operating systems offer a slew of handy features and more secure performance than the previous generations.

iOS 16 is already preloaded and waiting for you on the iPhone 14 Plus. The iPhone is highly versatile, with plenty of new features like retrievable and editable messages, a redesigned clock, a new lock screen, and maps with multipoint directions. The user experience is clean and intuitive. This is due to Apple’s consistent design pattern throughout the generations.

The Google Pixel 7 is similar to the iPhone in this regard. Loaded with Android 13, the Pixel 7 delivers a clean and easy-to-use interface. Android offers even more ways to customize your themes, patterns, and settings. With the latest release, in particular, many interactive animations and effects are peppered in tastefully, just enough to bring the operating system to life.

Performance

While the iPhone 14 Plus gets by on its raw processing power thanks to its A15 Bionic chip, the Google Pixel 7 takes a different approach. The AI-powered Tensor cores allow Google’s phone to leverage machine learning algorithms to make the most of its hardware. Neither phone is on the cutting edge of performance, though this isn’t entirely bad.

While the iPhone 14 Plus uses last year’s chip, performance is similar to the Pixel. Based on original testing done with the Pixel 6, the new generation is an improvement over the earlier tech’s experiments with Tensor cores. That being said, the Pixel 7 is still not as powerful as phones like the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra or other flagship models.

Both phones offer excellent performance for mobile gaming, and you can comfortably turn up the graphics settings without suffering from overheating or lag. Though performance might be superb, the biggest drag with heavy usage like this is battery life.

Battery

While the battery capacity is technically lower on the iPhone 14 Plus than the Google Pixel 7, the iPhone sips power so efficiently that this is not an issue. The power savings can be attributed to the more efficient Apple processor, although Google’s chip isn’t necessarily that power-hungry either.

With a 25-hour benchmark under video playback testing, the iPhone 14 Plus will easily carry you through the day. The Google Pixel 7 follows close behind, with a battery capable of 24 hours or more. With power saving mode enabled, either phone will effortlessly make it until the next day.

Activities like gaming might change these stats. Power-hungry games will burn through battery life faster than anything else, with percentage points dropping by up to 10% over short gaming sessions.

Even if you run low on power, you won’t have to wait long to charge. Both phones support fast charging, allowing you to get back almost a full charge in under an hour.

Google Pixel 7 vs. iPhone 14 Plus: Which One Is Better?

The Google Pixel 7 and iPhone 14 Plus compete fairly in almost every category, but a few significant distinctions will catch your attention. If you’re on the fence about switching from iOS or Android, then you can take comfort in the fact that the operating system and ease of use are highly similar between both phones.

Additionally, you get a solid performance from both models, although the iPhone pulls ahead regarding raw processing power. The Pixel 7 makes up for it with more advanced AI-powered Tensor cores. The biggest drawback to the iPhone 14 Plus is the price tag. The iPhone could be worth it if you’re willing to pay for the increased performance, slightly better battery, and cameras.

On the other hand, the Google Pixel 7 offers a new design with the latest mobile CPU technology and a plethora of new design elements.
