GAC on DISH Network: What You Need to Know
Great American Country initially went by its acronym, GAC, when the network was founded in 1995. The station has undergone significant changes in recent years, including the GAC moniker and GAC Family. While the channels’ initial focus was on country music, similar to CMT, they moved into other types of programming in 2013.
With the expansion into more of a lifestyle network, the channel became known as Great American Country instead of the GAC acronym. A group acquired the company in 2021 before GAC merged with Warner and Discovery and relaunched as GAC Family. It’s currently part of the larger Great American Media group led by Tom Hicks and Bill Abbott.
Abbott was previously CEO of Crown Media, otherwise known as Hallmark Entertainment. That’s one reason why you’ll see comparable programming with Hallmark and Great American Country, as well as some of the stars that helped put Hallmark Movies on the map.

GAC Programming on DISH Network
GAC airs family-friendly programming with a mix of classic content and newer shows. What’s on during the day varies by time, although the network typically airs blocks of syndicated programming throughout the day.
Depending on when you turn on the TV, you may think you’ve woken up in yesteryear. Father Knows Best, and Little House on the Prairie provide a wholesome vibe. 80s babies can enjoy shows like Silver Spoons and Who’s the Boss. Spoiler alert — it’s not Tony.
While GAC has plenty of classic content like Columbo and Wagon Train, they also have original movies with several new premiers each month. Hallmark and Lifetime fans will see familiar faces like Danica McKellar, Jesse Metcalfe, and Candace Cameron Bure. At this time, the only original programming airing on the network is The Abigail Mysteries and When Hope Calls.
GAC Sister Stations
There is only one true sister station affiliated with Great American Country, and that is Great American Living. The channel was previously known as GAC Living, but the content remains largely the same despite the rebrand.
Some shows from their main network are included on Great American Living, like Wagon Train and Bonanza. You can also find shows reality-style programming like Mountain Mamas, Going RV, and Aloha Builds on the network.
