EGO and RYOBI are two popular names in the cordless tool world, but for entirely different reasons. That largely comes down to their product lines, something we’re going to take a closer look at in our EGO vs. RYOBI comparison. If you’re considering purchasing a cordless mower, hedge trimmer, or chainsaw, you’ll want to know more about how their products stack up head to head.

EGO vs. RYOBI: What’s the Difference?
While EGO and RYOBI both have a strong focus on cordless equipment, RYOBI also sells gas-powered and corded equipment. They are a brand you’ll find on Amazon and in hardware stores across the United States, whereas EGO has a smaller footprint. Their lineup is geared towards lawn and garden, although we found both companies have plenty in common.
EGO Lawn Mowers
EGO’s line of Power+ mowers falls into two categories with push mowers and riding mowers. Push mowers come in two different styles. There are affordable walk-behind mowers and the company’s self-propelled lineup, which contains around a half-dozen models.
All of EGO’s self-propelled mowers share the same design language and common features with their push mowers. That means you can adjust the height and handle in numerous positions or cut at dusk with LED headlights. All are easy to clean, but the EGO Power+ LM2124SP is the most durable thanks to a steel deck.
This highly-rated mower has been well-received and provides a runtime of up to 70 minutes from a 7.5Ah battery. It has a 20-inch deck like the LM2000-S and LM2021. Those models aren’t self-propelled and have 5.0Ah batteries but the latter does have a steel deck. Consumers interested in a mower with more power should consider the LM2142SP.
With 8.3 ft. /lbs. of torque this mower takes advantage of EGO’s Peak Power tech. It runs off two batteries and has a 21-inch deck. It doesn’t have two of the company’s technologies, however, with Touch Drive or Select Cut. The Select Cut multi-blade system provides a clean cut with multiple blades. It’s found on five EGO mowers including the premium LM2156SP.
This mower also has the same amount of torque, but with only one battery. The much larger 10.0Ah battery has almost the same runtime as their dual-battery model. Touch Drive is also on this model, which uses a dial and palm-based control for the self-propelled system. Many of these mowers are in the premium class, while the LM2101 is an entry-level model that’s perfect for smaller yards.
EGO Riding Mowers
There are three Z6 riding mowers available from EGO Power+. All of their lithium-powered mowers are zero-turn and powered by several batteries. Their flagship model is the EGO ZT5207L, which has a 52-inch deck and utilizes six 12.0Ah batteries.
The 52-inch Z6 can handle up to 5 acres with a half-dozen 12.0Ah batteries. There are 32 LED lights on this mower along with Bluetooth and a USB charging port. It’s efficient and comfortable, but so is the smaller 42-inch EGO ZT4204L. While the deck on this mower isn’t as large, it can still handle 2-3 acres before you’ll need to recharge.
This mower and the 52-inch Z6 have customizable LCD displays and three driving modes including a “Sport” mode. The top mowing speed is 3-7 miles per hour, and it has four brushless mowers compared to the five on the EGO ZT5207L. Looking for something a little more familiar to drive but still want a mower with zero-turn capabilities? Well, the EGO ZT5205S could be the solution.
You’ll find the same premium features on this mower as the 52-inch and 42-inch mowers, but with one major difference. The ZT5205S uses EGO’s E-Steer technology. Instead of steering with sticks or paddles, you’ll use a steering wheel that lets you drive the mower like a card, but with zero turn capabilities. All of EGO’s riding mowers are compatible with a variety of accessories from storage bins to baggers and sun shades.
EGO Landscaping Products
String trimmers or weed eaters go hand-in-hand with mowers. EGO’s trimmers, like the rest of their products, are compatible with the company’s 56V battery system. The biggest differences from one model to the next are the loading systems and the type of shaft which is aluminum or carbon fiber.
Homeowners looking to keep things simple and affordable should consider the EGO ST1500-S string trimmer. It has a classic bump head and aluminum shaft but sports a highly efficient brushless motor. It’s an older model, however, and can’t stack up to newer string trimmers from EGO like the ST1623T or ST1502SA.
The EGO ST1623T has a number of flagship features including Line IQ with Powerload technology. You’ll never need to bump the trimmer against the ground and will have a constant feed of line at all times. It has a carbon fiber shaft like the ST1521S, but the rest of its string trimmers have aluminum shafts in the residential class.

EGO Hedge Trimmers and Edgers
Hedges can be a hassle to keep trimmed, and not something you want to tackle with a corded tool. EGO ensures you don’t have to with their Power+ hedge trimmers, which range in length from 24 inches to 26 inches. Their only brushless model is the HT2411. This trimmer has a runtime of around 75 minutes and it also has a large cutting capacity of 1 inch.
The EGO Power+ HT2601 has more power at 3,400 RPMs and it can cut branches 1.2 inches thick. You’ll only find one rear motor edger from EGO with the EDO804, but you can use an edger attachment with the company’s Power Head system. There are two Power+ Power Heads and eight attachments including a pole saw, snow shovel, and string trimmer.

EGO Chainsaws
Homeowners looking for a large chainsaw should have the EGO Power+ CS1804 on their shopping list. It’s their most powerful consumer model with an 18” bar and a brushless motor that provides performance on par with 45cc gas-powered models.
You can get 300 cuts on a 4×4 using a 5.0Ah battery with this chainsaw, compared to the CS1611 at 130 cuts. That saw has a smaller 16-inch bar and chain, but still sports the company’s tool-free tensioning system. That’s not a feature available on their other 16-inch model or 14-inch chainsaw, although all have an automatic oiler.
EGO Power+ Blowers
EGO may not have the largest selection of chainsaws, but they have plenty of blowers. There are eight “regular” blowers rated from 480 to 765 CFM. Air speeds top out at around 200 miles per hour on the premium Power+ LB7654, which has a runtime of 90 minutes from a 5.0Ah battery.
You won’t get as much power from the LB6703, but it’s almost 4 pounds lighter and can still blow at 180 mph. The affordable Power+ LB4803 is the best choice for smaller lawns at 480CFM and its 2.5Ah battery will last for up to an hour. If you have a lot of ground to clear at your home, this backpack blower is a better choice. It’s 600 CFM with features like Turbo Boost and is comfortable to use during extended blowing sessions.
Homeowners that get all four seasons will need to deal with snow along with those who reside in frigid climates. While EGO’s snow blowers can’t deal with 5 feet of snow, their battery-powered blowers can sling powder up to 50 feet. The powerful 2-stage SNG2405 can do just that and is capable of clearing a driveway with up to 8” of snow.
The steel auger works through the snow with ease, and it can take two of the company’s 56V batteries. The SNT2125AP Power+ snow blower still has a sturdy steel auger but is only single-stage. There’s another variant with a metal frame and rubber-tipped auger for smaller areas and occasional use. Prices on EGO snow blowers range from around $699 to more than $1,000.

Other Cordless Products from EGO
EGO’s focus is on outdoor equipment for your lawn and garden, not power tools or accessories. They do have a small line of products in their Lifestyle category, however. The LT1000 Power+ Portable Area Light has an interesting design, and there are two power inverters as well.
The 18” EGO misting fan will keep you cool outdoors by providing 5,000 CFM of airflow across five speeds. Runtime on low is excellent at 60 hours, making it perfect for summer fun or work outdoors. If you want to put the company’s batteries to good use when they’re not in a tool, you may be interested in the EGO Power+ Nexus generator.
When powered by four 7.5Ah batteries, this generator can power a light, LED TV, and router for more than 8 hours. It could bring a smart TV and media player back to life during a power outage for 10 to 14 hours as well. EGO may not have any cordless drills or drivers due to the size of their batteries, but they do have a series of cordless commercial equipment.
EGO tagged this line as commercial but it’s something any homeowner can buy when they want some extra power. Currently, you’ll find a brushless string trimmer, hedge trimmer, chainsaw, backpack blower, and a battery system set in a backpack for use with their products.
RYOBI Lawn Mowers
RYOBI may not be the first name to consider with cordless mowers, but their current lineup is impressive. The company’s push mower collection contains a mix of brushless mowers alongside a handful of self-propelled mowers. Batteries range from 40 to 80V, but there are also corded mowers like the RYOBI RYAC160.
This mower has a 16-inch cutting path and has an affordable price tag if you can deal with a cord. It’s great for smaller yards, but the RYOBI P1190VNM replaces the cord with an 18V battery and a brushless motor. The company also has two 13-inch mowers with the same features. Consumers looking for something with more horsepower will want to step up to their 40V mower systems, however.
There are around a half-dozen push mowers in this class, and five have brushless motors. This 20-inch mower has a 7-point height adjustment and a self-propelled system that makes mowing grass a breeze. It comes with a 6.0Ah battery. It has a 40V battery like the RY501210, which is also self-propelled. It’s from the Whisper series, however, so it’s quieter than other mowers in this class.
RYOBI’s RYPM8010 is their most powerful mower and one of the larger cordless push mowers available. It has a massive 30-inch deck with the company’s cross-cut blade system. The mower gets its power from an 80V battery and comes with an 80V Hyper Charger with a 10Ah battery. Most of the company’s mowers share a similar range of features with prices ranging from around $300-$1000.

RYOBI Riding Mowers
While there’s only one 80V push mower from RYOBI, three of their riding mowers use the same system 80V system. All three are brushless, but with different-sized decks at 30 inches, 42 inches, and 54 inches These lithium-powered mowers also make use of the company’s iDrive technology. Instead of a steering wheel or paddle sticks, you control the mower with a joystick.
This unique system won’t be for everyone but has enough power to cut up to 3 acres per charge. You’ll do so in comfort and style, although the RYOBI RYRM8060 and 8070 take a more traditional approach. These mowers have steering wheels to go along with three 80V lithium-ion batteries. Those batteries provide a runtime of 2.5 hours per charge, and these mowers have a towing capacity of 500 pounds.
You can also use a steering wheel to drive the 38-inch RYOBI RY4811 electric riding mower. It’s the smallest riding mower from the company but has an internal battery with 2.5 hours of runtime. The RY48140 provides the same runtime from a 115Ah battery but is a zero-turn mower. It has a 54-inch deck that’s adjustable in 12 positions and it gets its power from 5 brushless motors.
Several other models use the same battery system including slightly smaller 42-inch zero-turn mowers with 100Ah and 75Ah batteries. These mowers are an interesting alternative to mowers with removable lithium-ion batteries, but with similar price points across the board.
RYOBI Landscaping Products
RYOBI has a solid section of cordless landscaping tools along with some gas-powered models. Their string trimmer line has something for everyone, including consumers looking for 2-in-1 solutions for their property.
Most of the trimmers from RYOBI are 18 volts with a range from 13 inches to 15 inches. The 18V models may feel a little underpowered when dealing with thick weeds, although some models like the RYOBI P21090VM have brushless motors. It’s a Whisper Series weed eater that will keep the noise down and has a speed winder crank that makes reloading trimmer line simple.
The RYOBI RY502110VNM is more horsepower thanks to a 40V battery and an adjustable cutting width of 15 inches to 17 inches. It also has a carbon fiber shaft to keep the weight down. That’s where you’ll find a walk-behind 40V edger kit from RYOBI alongside their new cordless stick edger. Alternatively, most of their dual-purpose devices use 18V batteries outside a few models like the RY4020A.
String trimmer and edger combos are ideal when you have light-duty weed-eating and edging on your property. RYOBI has push models and traditional handheld combo tools in this class. With that in mind, a dedicated tool could be the better choice, or the company’s 40V power head kit if you want to perform multiple jobs with one device.

RYOBI Chainsaws, Hedge Trimmers, and Augers
Homeowners looking to take their yard work to the next level will be thrilled with RYOBI’s selection of chainsaws, pruners, and trimmers. While you can find several corded tools in this range, we’re going to focus on their most powerful options which use their 40V battery systems.
The best RYOBI chainsaw that runs off battery power is the RY40580. This chainsaw has an 18-inch bar backed by a brushless motor and is easy to adjust through side-mounted tensioning. It’s sold as a kit or bare tool while the RYOBI RY40550 offers similar performance in a 16-inch package. There are two other brushless models at 12-inch and 14-inch along with the budget-friendly RY40570.
The company currently doesn’t have any 40V pruners, but the 18V One+ Lopper Kit has been well-received. It pairs perfectly with their smaller 18V chainsaws and RYOBI cordless pruning shears. RYOBI pruning shears are also only 18V, although three hedge trimmers use 40V batteries. The RY40620VNM doesn’t have a brushless motor like the RYOBI Whisper Series hedge trimmer, but it is efficient and affordable.
Two of the more unique options in RYOBI’s 40V family are augers and cultivators. It’s not something you see often in the battery-powered realm, and the RY40712VNM is designed to go through thick Ice. This Earth Auger Kit is on the opposite end of the spectrum and can make digging post holes a thing of the past.
Need to churn the earth? RYOBI has a 40V 18-inch rear tine tiller that can do the trick. It’s brushless and can till to a depth of 10 inches thanks to two four 60Ah batteries. This self-propelled tiller won’t break your back and has a reverse drive function as well. As RYOBI thought of almost everything, you can finish off that freshly churned earth with the RYOBI 18V One+ Power Spreader.

RYOBI Cordless Blowers
There are two styles of blowers from RYOBI – blowers designed for leaves and ones that throw snow. It’s also an area where RYOBI stands out from similar brands considering they have well over a dozen battery-powered blowers.
40V blowers from RYOBI include handheld models from their Whisper Series along with two large backpack blowers. Our favorite is this PTIA award winner, which has dual batteries but a noise level of only 59 dB. It can produce 730 CFM of blower power tying it with the RYOBI RY404100VNM as the most powerful blower from the company.
Other leaf blowers range from 200 to 600 CFM depending on the battery size. One of the more unique options is the RYOBI Vac Attack Leaf Mulcher, however. It also uses a 40V battery but sucks leaves up and mulches them instead of blowing them into a pile. With snow blowers, RYOBI has two walk-behind models to choose from.
Both snow blowers are brushless, but the RY408101VNM is 21 inches and quieter with Whisper tech. It can remove 13-inch deep snow with a 35-foot throw distance. It’s variable speed but has a premium price compared to the RY40890VNM which has an 18-inch deck. Consumers looking for something more affordable and easier to manage can choose from two 40V snow shovels or the 18V ONE+ Snow Shovel Kit.

Other Cordless Products from RYOBI
If you buy into RYOBI’s 40V or 18V ecosystem, there are more than 100 cordless tools you can use with their batteries. That includes handheld power cleaners, but they also have two 40V Whisper Series high-powered pressure washers.
The RYOBI RY40PW15VNM is brushless, quiet, and capable of producing 1000 PSI at 1.2 gallons per minute or 1500 PSI in boost mode. You can take that 40V battery and use it in the company’s 4-gallon backpack sprayer to get rid of pests on your property. There are also a half-dozen smaller handheld chemical sprayers that rely on 18V batteries.
Need to shine a light on a project in your workshop or cool things down? You can do the latter with the company’s aptly named Hybrid Air Cannon fan. They also have bucket misting fans on 18V batteries along with a 40V wet/dry shop vacuum. There is no shortage of clamp and compact lights, inflators, and speakers utilizing the RYOBI 18V system.
There are no additional 80V tools, but RYOBI does have an 1800W power station using 40V batteries. If you prefer hand tools to outdoor equipment, you are likely to be overwhelmed by the company’s massive selection. Whether you want a driver, cordless nailer, sander, or saw; RYOBI has something for everyone at any price point.
RYOBI’s cordless tools belong in their own category. There are more than 280 products that use RYOBI 18V batteries. They have an 18V cordless tool for almost any job and several combo kits that make things easy for new users. While their 18V One+ system is somewhat underpowered compared to companies like Milwaukee or DeWalt, the broad selection more than makes up for that.

EGO vs. RYOBI: Which One is Better?
When trying to decide between EGO and RYOBI our best advice is to think about the type of task you perform around your home. If you’re handy are interested in battery-powered tools to go along with a mower, snow blower, or weed eater, RYOBI is an interesting option.
They have a massive like of 18V and 40V tools along with a handful of 80V mowers. By comparison, EGO only has one battery system at 56V, which is more powerful than anything from RYOBI. Their riding mowers have just as much oomph with multiple batteries, but you’ll need to buy into another company’s battery system if you want a cordless driver, impact wrench, or circular saw.
Pricing is comparable depending on the tool, and both companies have unique technologies tied to their brands. EGO has a better warranty with 5 years on all outdoor equipment and 3 years on batteries and chargers with a few 5-year exceptions including riding mowers. RYOBI provides a 5-year warranty on their 80V mowers, but you’ll only get 3 years on outdoor equipment and 3 years on the 18V ONE+ line.
