Each year, homeowners and landscapers fire up their equipment for the season; although, gas and oil mixes are slowly being replaced by lithium-ion batteries. That brings us to EGO vs. Greenworks, two companies that specialize in battery-powered lawnmowers and outdoor products. These brands have distinct styles, and while their lineups are similar, you’ll want to dig deep before investing in their ecosystems.

EGO vs. Greenworks: What’s the Difference?
Greenworks and EGO Power Plus are companies that produce battery-powered equipment designed for the outdoors. While both have plenty of lawnmowers and weed eaters available, their product lines start to differ when you’re ready to leave yard work behind.
When you purchase a product from these companies, you are buying into their ecosystem. That means it’s more of an investment than corded tools, so it’s important to take a closer look at their overall lineups. That’s what we’re going to do in our EGO Vs. Greenworks comparison, starting with EGO’s line of lawn care products.
EGO Lawn Care Products
Most of EGO’s products fall under the lawn care category, which starts with push mowers, riding mowers, and string trimmers for many consumers.
EGO Lawn Mowers
The company’s push mowers range in weight from 45 to 65 pounds without a battery. EGO Power+ push mowers fold up and have telescoping handles. They’ll leave a small footprint behind when not in use, and while most have a very similar design, power and performance will vary.
EGO has four models in their Power+ push mower lineup. All of their mowers have a similar design language with some minor cosmetic differences, but the torque, features, and price points vary significantly.

Consumers looking for their first cordless mower should consider the EGO LM2114 or EGO LM2021. They are considered entry-level mowers with 5.0Ah batteries and are comparable in weight. The biggest difference is the cutting path width, which is 20” on the LM2021. This mower is also the only one in this range with a steel deck.
The EGO LM2133 comes with the same battery package but utilizes the company’s Select Cut system. There are three blades beneath the deck, and it has 7 ft. per pound of cutting torque. You won’t get as much power from the LM2101, although it is around $100 cheaper with the same battery (but without Select Cut).
There are also a few discontinued models in this range, like the LM2000-S, which you can’t buy through EGO’s site, but may find through local retailers. Consumers looking for mowers with more premium features will want to check out the EGO self-propelled lawn mowers.
EGO Self-Propelled Mowers
EGO doesn’t have the largest selection of push mowers powered by cordless batteries, but there are plenty of self-propelled models to choose from. That includes the EGO LM2142SP lawn mower, which has EGO’s Peak Power technology.

Peak Power is a dual-battery system that extends the runtime on the company’s mowers and other outdoor equipment. It’s one of their more expensive mowers, although it comes with two 5.0 Ah batteries. This mower has a maximum cutting height of 4”, like most of their lineup, but can’t cut grass quite as close as the EGO Power+ LM2125SP.
With a minimum cutting height of 1.25” and a 7.5 Ah battery, the EGO LM2125SP provides more runtime and has Touch Drive self-propelled technology. It also uses the company’s multi-blade system; something that’s missing from the dual-battery model. The LM2135SP and LM210SP also have 7.5 Ah batteries, but the latter is cheaper without multiple blades or Touch Drive.
All of these mowers have a 21” deck made from thick, durable plastic. The exception is the EGO Power+ LM2022SP. This self-propelled mower doesn’t have flagship features but sports a durable steel deck measuring 20”.
It also comes with a 7.5 Ah battery, while the LM2156SP provides a bit more torque and runtime with a larger 10.0 Ah battery. The EGO LM2167SP has the largest battery pack with a 12.0 Ah 56V battery.
EGO Riding Mowers
A decade ago, the idea of a riding mower powered by lithium-ion seemed out of reach. Today, they are common, and there are three models to choose from with EGO. All of these mowers are Zero-Turn, but the EGO Power+ ZT4205S puts a unique spin on steering.
This mower utilizes EGO’s E-STEER tech, which allows users to control it with a steering wheel instead of dual paddle sticks. It’s an interesting approach and something that can help make yard work fun again. The mower can handle up to 2.5 acres through four 12.0 Ah batteries and still has the LCD interface found on the other models.
That panel allows you to check on the status of your battery and the mower itself. It also provides access to several driving modes, including Sport Mode. Homeowners looking for something a bit more affordable should consider the EGO ZT4204L. It has smaller 10 Ah batteries and is rated for up to 2 acres but still has a sturdy stamped deck and lap bar steering.
At the top of the food chain is the EGO ZT5207L with a 52” deck. The extra cutting range allows you to cut more grass with each pass, but it has extended runtime as well. This mower comes equipped with two extra 12 Ah batteries, bringing the total to six.
String Trimmers
EGO has one of the larger lineups of string trimmers or weed eaters. As with the mowers, you’ll only find minor differences from one model to the next.
All of the company’s string trimmers are IPX4 rated against the weather and have brushless motors. They also use the company’s dual-line system, which makes the line easy to feed.
Meanwhile, Soft Start tech ensures a smooth start when you’re ready for action. Power varies depending on the kitted battery, so you’ll want to pay attention to the speeds and build quality.
The EGO ST1534 has a 2-speed variable system like the ST1623T and ST1511T. It has the largest battery, however with no-load speeds of 6,000-7,000 RPM. It’s a 15” model with an aluminum shaft whereas the EGO ST1632T is an inch longer with a carbon fiber shaft. That helps keep the weight down, and the 15” ST1511T has a carbon fiber shaft as well.
EGO vs. Greenworks: EGO Landscaping Products
When it’s time to transition from cutting grass to other types of landscaping, EGO has you covered. Whether you need a battery-powered chainsaw, edger, snow blower or pole saw – EGO has something suitable for your home.
EGO Chainsaws
There are five chainsaws from EGO, all of which have a tool-free tensioning system and an electric brake. The two 18” models both have the same chain speed at 20m/s, but the EGO CS1802-2 comes with two 5.0 Ah batteries. They have the largest oil reserves and are the equivalent of a 45cc gas-powered chainsaw.

If you want something smaller, the EGO CS1401 is a better choice with a 14” bar. It doesn’t have the oomph of the larger models with a 2.0 Ah battery but pairs perfectly with the company’s pole saws. There is only one residential version at the moment, but commercial options like the EGO Power+ PPSX2504 are available as well.
EGO Hedge Trimmers & Edgers
Many of EGO’s products share more similarities than differences from one model to the next, but that changes with the company’s hedge trimmers. The only thing in common with these hedge trimmers are the blades, which are dual-action and made from hardened steel.
Homeowners interested in something that can deal with all-around work will appreciate the EGO Power+ HT2601 or HT2501. The former is 26” and can handle hedges up to 1.2” thick while the HT2501 is an inch shorter with a cut capacity of 1 ¼” thick. The EGO HT2411 is more efficient with a brushless motor, however.
The EGO HTX6500 is an interesting option as well. It’s in the commercial class and can last for up to 5 hours with the backpack battery. With edgers, two models are basically identical except for one thing. The EGO Power+ ME801 is an edger that comes with a power head, which is ideal if you plan on using the company’s multi-head system.
EGO Blowers
If you want to take care of leaves in the fall or blow grass clipping from your driveway, there is no shortage of EGO blowers. These blowers range from around 480 CFM to more than 800 CFM for the company’s backpack blower with Peak Power.

There are a few backpack blowers and around a half-dozen handheld models. The most affordable is the EGO Power+ LB4803. This is a 480 CFM leaf blower with a 2.5 Ah battery that provides up to an hour of runtime. While that’s more than enough for small to medium yards, the Power Plus LB5804 has more power, better runtime, and variable speed control.
All of the leaf blowers come with tapered and spread nozzles, something you don’t have to worry about if you’re trying to move snow instead of leaves. When the temperature drops, the best way to move a lot of snow from driveways and sidewalks is the EGO SNT2405 Power+ Snow Blower. It’s a 2-stage system that uses 7.5 Ah batteries.

That’s enough power for an 18-car driveway, and it can sling snow up to 50 feet. This snow blower is self-propelled, which is great considering its weight. Single-stage blowers from EGO are lighter and less expensive but don’t have the same range or runtime. If you don’t care about heated handles or need to clear a driveway, snow shovel add-ons are available for the company’s multi-head system.
EGO vs. Greenworks: Other Products from EGO Power+
Most companies that produce battery-powered equipment allow you to use their batteries in other types of products. EGO is no different, so you can find an array of shop and area lights along with fans and other items.
One of those is their multi-tool, which resembles a weed eater or edger. The difference is, you can snap different attachments onto the shaft including a snow shovel, rubber broom, head trimmer, and pole saw. There are two models of the multi-head tool, with the EGO PH1420 coming in as the premium tool with a carbon fiber shaft.
The company has a unique area light with folding panels in the LT1000. They can also keep you cool outdoors with their misting fan, which can last for up to 60 hours at low speed with a 5.0 Ah battery. There are several power inverters and a solar panel charger, but the most interesting option is the EGO Power+ Nexus Portable Power Station.

If you buy into EGO’s ecosystem, this power station is the perfect companion. It can house multiple 56V batteries, so it can power a 40” TV for up to 8 hours or a corded circular saw for more than 500 cuts. A digital LED display, 4 USB ports, and pure sine wave are just a few other flagship features of the Nexus portable power station.
EGO vs. Greenworks: Greenworks Lawn Care Products
Greenworks has a vast collection of lawn care products, from trimmers and edgers to more than 20 lawn mower packages. They have more mower sizes than most brands combined, which can be appealing but somewhat confusing when you’re searching through their catalog.
Greenworks Mowers
Mowers from Greenworks fall into several categories. There are brushless mowers, mowers sold as packages with other tools, and self-propelled mowers. Some use the company’s Smart Cut technology which increases battery life through efficiency.
The 60-volt MO60L424 is a good example of that and has a dual-port powerhead that takes two batteries. The runtime on this mower is around 60 minutes with the two included 4.0 Ah batteries. Want a mower that can cut more grass than others as you make your way around your yard? Well, Greenworks has three mowers with 25” wide decks.

That’s 4” wider than most mower decks, and dual batteries provide enough power to handle small to medium yards. If you have a small grassy plot or a lot of landscaping to cut around, there are a handful of mowers with 14” decks along with a classic Push Reel Mower and a corded model. Most of the company’s push mowers are brushless and over half are self-propelled.
Homeowners that want to take a different approach should consider the Greenworks optimow. This robotic mower works with boundary wires and has a cutting height of 2.4 to 4”. It can deal with sloped ground up to 20°, but the company’s riding mower can also make life easy when it’s time for yard work.
Riding Mowers
With riding mowers, Greenworks took a different approach, as there are Zero Turn mowers and classic riding mowers on the same battery system. You can drive with a steering wheel or sticks, although both styles of mowers have 42” decks.
While they appear to have two riding mowers, there’s actually only one in two configurations. The Greenworks CRT426 provides a comparable ride on 15 and 20” wheels and cuts grass at 8 miles per hour. It has a sturdy 12-gauge steel deck with a minimum cutting height of 1.5 inches. You’ll find the same basic specifications on the Zero Turn Ultra Power Pro mowers as well.
Outside of the fact the riding mower is a CrossoverT and a steering wheel, the company’s riding mowers are largely the same. Batteries range from 60 to 80 volts, and most come with three dual-port chargers and six 8.0 Ah batteries.
String Trimmers
To say that Greenworks has a massive catalog of string trimmers would be an understatement. The company has brushed and brushless trimmers at a variety of price points and sizes. There are more than two dozen configurations available at any time, although we’re just going to focus on a few of the more popular options.
From 12” to 16”, there is a length of weed eater for everyone. The general styles vary as much as the lengths. Some have top-mounted handles, others can take attachments, and there are even a few corded models like the Greenworks 21142 10” string trimmer. Alternatively, the ST-140-A can also take attachments but is 4” shorter and comes with a 40v battery.

One of the smaller and more affordable trimmers is the Greenworks ST24B214. It’s 11” long and cordless, but only has a 2.0 Ah 24-volt battery. The TORQDRIVE trimmer won’t break the bank but doesn’t have as much horsepower as the 80-volt Greenworks STB301. Their selection of cordless edgers includes two models along with a 12 amp corded edger.
Greenworks Outdoor Equipment
One outdoor activity that homeowners tend to trend is pressure washing. Power cords can be a major problem, but not if the system is cordless. Greenworks has more than a dozen cold water pressure washers, but only a few are actually cordless.
There are two bucket-based pressure washers with ratings of 800 and 1800 PSI and an interesting cordless power cleaner. The Greenworks PW18HYB is our favorite, however, as it’s a hybrid system that can work off two 60V batteries or an AC outlet. It can put out 1800 PSI at 1.1 GPM, but the GPW3001 is their most powerful model at 3000 PSI, though it’s corded — not powered by batteries.

Greenworks also has a line of snow blowers with brushless motors. There isn’t a significant difference in some configurations, but models like the 80V SN80L620 certainly stand out. It’s a two-stage snow blower with a throw range of 50’ and a chute that rotates 200°. It’s a 60V system with dual batteries and twice the price of the 80V blower (SNB403) that’s single-stage.
Other Products from Greenworks
Greenworks allows their consumers to use their batteries in a number of products inside their homes as well. While you can purchase common battery-powered gadgets like fans or lights, they also have a cordless speaker, shop vacs, and cordless tools.
While you can’t pop a 60V battery into these vacuums, the GRV-5011 is a robotic vacuum cleaner that doubles as a wet mop. They have two other robotic vacuum cleaners at different price points and a 24V cordless stick vacuum that comes in several colors and configurations. If you need to vacuum debris up in your garage or shop instead of on the carpet and hardwood, they have that covered as well.

One of our favorite products from Greenworks is their Wet/Dry shop vacs. The premium 60V kit is a hybrid system with dual power options, while the WDV40B210 is a toolbox-shaped vacuum with a 3-gallon bin. Some of the company’s smaller 24V batteries will also work in their cordless tools and accessories like inflators.
Their lineup isn’t as expansive as RYOBI when it comes to sheer numbers, but they have a tool for almost anything. There’s a 24V glue gun, multi-tool, jig saw, and an orbital sander. There are several types of drivers and drills, along with a 24V rotary hammer. It’s brushless and efficient, although underpowered compared to similar models.

EGO vs. Greenworks: Which One Is Better?
Greenworks and EGO have a similar range of products, but Greenworks has a much larger catalog overall. They have more products to fill different needs, as well, whether you want to cut your grass cordlessly or need a battery-powered nailer, blower, or vacuum cleaner.
While you may think that gives them an instant advantage in our EGO vs. Greenworks comparison, that’s not necessarily the case. EGO specializes in “outdoor” equipment, compared to Greenworks, which has multiple battery systems for various products. Some EGO’s early models had a few issues, but they have been at the top of every best-selling cordless mower list for years.
We feel that pricing is comparable on most products. The warranty policies vary somewhat, with EGO offering a 5-year tool guarantee and 3 years on batteries and chargers. With Greenworks, you’ll get a 4-year warranty on tools and batteries. Customer service is a coin flip, as getting a mower to them for repair can be complicated.
If you are buying a battery system for outdoor tools, EGO is the ideal choice. Their focus is on mowers, blowers, and other landscaping equipment, whereas Greenworks has a broader approach and multiple voltages to deal with. Greenworks is slightly cheaper, however, and could be a better alternative depending on the type of products you’re interested in.
