Ego 56V Mower vs Greenworks 80V Mower: What’s the Difference?
The main difference between the Ego 56 Volt mower and the GreenWorks 80 Volt mower is their battery types. 80 Volt battery pack and the GreenWorks mowers are much larger than the 56 Volt ones on the Ego. Both use high-quality brushless motors, which will get you long life and trouble-free operation. However, GreenWorks should provide more cutting power.
Models and Pricing
Ego makes a number of different 56V push-mower models. Additionally, you can get several different bundles, which come with or without batteries and different cutting decks. Greenworks has a reputation for being more on the affordable side. This isn’t a bad thing at all, and GreenWorks also makes some very good mowers. However, the 80V mower is more expensive than the 56V Ego. The GreenWorks 80V line commonly gets rave reviews because it is so powerful and affordable.
The company has a few different models of their 80V mower, but our focus is on the GreenWorks Pro MO80L410, which is 21 inches and comes as a bundle with a 4.0-ah battery plus a charger. Each battery will last about one hour, and the bundle costs $550. The GreenWorks mower includes a mulching kit, a side discharge chute, and a debris bag.
Deck
The GreenWorks and Ego mowers have the same sized 21-inch decks. These are fairly large for an electric mower and the same size as many gas-powered models. This is a departure from older electric mowers that were commonly under 15 inches. Best of all, the decks are steel rather than plastic, which is found on many cheaper electric mowers.
Adjustability
The GreenWorks mower is simple to operate thanks to self-propelled wheels and single-button push start. There is even a lever to control the wheel speed. Like other electric mowers, the handle folds down to make storage and transportation a breeze.

Power
As we’ve mentioned, the most significant difference is the battery platforms. The 80V from GreenWorks is reasonably more powerful than the 56V from Ego. The power difference means you can cut taller grass without struggling with the mower. However, you should always keep the grass at a manageable height so that any mower doesn’t have to work hard.
But you should also remember that the GreenWorks mower only comes with a 4.0ah battery compared to the Ego’s 5.0ah one. Surprisingly, the GreenWorks batteries promise a longer runtime of one hour compared to the Ego’s forty-five minutes. Both mowers come in different bundles with varying battery options so that you can pick the best option for your yard.
Accessories
Both mowers come with the same basic components. The bundles mentioned above have come with at least one battery and a charger, so you can start cutting right out of the box. The GreenWorks charger does have ports to charge two batteries at the same time. The mowers also have their blades pre-installed, so that saves a step.
But one of the first things you’ll notice on both mowers is the LED lights on the front. Although not technically an accessory, these are a nice addition since you can use an electric mower at night without disturbing the neighbors. Ego and GreenWorks also give you all the necessary accessories for mulching, cutting, or bagging your yard clippings.
Warranty
The Ego warranty period for home use is five years for the mower itself. Batteries and chargers come with a shorter warranty period of three years. GreenWorks has a slightly different warranty for their products, four years for both the mower, batteries, and chargers.
The bigger difference is if you use the mowers for commercial work because Ego has a warranty period of one year for the mower and batteries (two for the batteries if registered). However, the GreenWorks warranty for commercial use is only 90 days for the mower and batteries. Choosing between Ego and GreenWorks is a pretty hard decision. Both companies are pretty similar and offer comparable products, adding prices that are equally close. But if we had to choose, we would go with Ego. The quality is a little bit better than the GreenWorks, and we feel it is enough to justify the small drop in power. The Ego also comes with a five-year warranty compared GreenWorks’s four-year warranty.
However, if you’re already invested in GreenWorks batteries, then you should absolutely purchase a GreenWorks mower. Similarly, if you find a GreenWorks mower at an exceptional price or with additional batteries, then there’s no reason not to pick it up. We also recommend looking at some of the other mowers on the market, especially if you already have batteries.
