Funko Pop is a Washington-based brand of collectible vinyl figurines popular with American pop culture. These figurines depict characters from popular TV shows, video games, movies, and comics. Some people collect Funko pops as an expression of love for their favorite pop artists and comic acts.
These collectibles come in cute chibi-style designs, often featuring oversized heads, smaller bodies, and a cartoonish appearance. The extensive Funko Pop product line includes retailer exclusives, Funko Shop exclusives, like those found in Target, and convention exclusives. While most Funko pops are affordable, some are rare, and their exclusivity can fetch a hefty price tag.
Funko Pop doesn’t make vinyl figurines, so prices tend to increase with time. As such, some people buy the figurines early on, hoping to sell them for a profit later. Funky Pops has immense value. Because of their high-quality design and durability, they are some of the most sought-after figurine collectibles. Keep reading to discover the most expensive funko pop figurines, how much they cost, and why they stand out.
The Most Expensive Funko Pop: Alex DeLarge from Clockwork Orange (Glow in The Dark)
The Alex DeLarge (Glow in the dark) is currently the world’s most expensive and sought-after Funky Pop. This figurine was the main character of the 1971 novel and 1972 film “ A Clockwork Orange.” In 2022, a “chase” glow-in-the-dark version of this Funky Pop sold for $32,436, while the non-glow version went for $35,000.
Needless to say, these weren’t off-the-shelf pops which explain the high price tag. Alex De Large Funko Pops dates back to 2012 as part of the first wave of the “A Clock Orange” line of Funko Pops figurines. Due to copyright battles, they never hit the retail section. Only 24 of the original version remain.
Besides being rare, this Funko Pop is one of the most expensive because it glows in the dark. Unlike standard versions, it doesn’t hold a cane and features the CEO’s signature.
In 2016 and 2017, these Pops had an estimated value of $13,300 and $13,000, respectively. Seeing them sell for more than $32,000 in 2022 is a clear indicator of the value they hold. Because Funko will never produce replicas, we expect their value to shoot.
Other Highly Valuable Funko Pops
The Funko company has been in business for more than 20 years. Over the years, the company designed and produced more than 8,366 pop figures. Some are popular characters from different entertainment sectors, including music and video games, while others aren’t well known.
While the popularity of the figurines is a major factor influencing their price, the number of units released also affects the overall value and pricing. However, some exceptions exist. This section discusses some of the most valuable figurines besides Alex DeLarge (Glow in the dark).
1. Freddy Funko as Venom
Freddy Funko is one of the most popular characters in collectibles. So many variations of this figurine exist, and one of the most sought-after is Freddy Funko as Venom. Funko released this item as an exclusive at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con event. Only 24 units were given out, which explains the rarity.
Besides its rarity, Freddy Funko as Venom Funko Pop features a unique and highly detailed design. The striking colors and intricacy make it stand out from other Funko Pops. Collectors are often willing to pay a premium, and it’s easy to see why. Moreover, the popularity of the Freddy Funko and Venom franchises is also a major contributor to their high cost.
Since their launch, some of these figurines sold for prices ranging between $8,000 and $30,800. Those who were quick to sell their grails immediately after the Funko Fundays Event definitely regret their decisions because their value only increases. The estimated value of the Freddy Funko as Venom grail was $19,090 as of September 2022, up from $5,270 in November 2019.
2. Freddy Funko as Jaime Lannister (Bloody)
One of the rarest and most expensive Funkjo pop collectibles is the Jaime Lannister (bloody) edition. Like most rare Funko Pops, it was first available to collectors in a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive, and only 12 figures were launched. However, only a few of these units ever went up for sale.
This figurine portrays Jaime Lannister from the Game of Thrones show in his iconic bloody costume. Besides being a limited edition, the show’s popularity increased its exclusivity. Moreover, the designers did a good job creating the bloody stains visible on Jaime’s face.
Released in 2013, this item currently has an estimated price of about $19,330. We’ve seen some collectors price it on eBay for over $29,000, but there’s no verifiable purchase.
3. Stan Lee (Superhero Platinum Metallic) Funko Pop
The Stan Lee (Superhero Platinum Metallic) figurine is perhaps the rarest Funko Pop worldwide. Funko developed this grail in honor of the status of Stan Lee, a legendary pop culture icon. The company only released 10 of these grails. Another aspect that makes them so valuable is that Stan Lee physically autographed all of them.
Aside from its limited edition status and Stan’s autograph, the figurine features a unique metallic finish which sets it apart from other Stan Lee Pops. Any Marvel fan would want a piece of this collectible. As of July 2022, it has an estimated value of about $18,000.
4. Freddy Funko (Black Suit)
Freddy Funko is the official Mascot of the Funko brand. The black suit Freddy Funko is a variant of the original Freddy Funko. He wears a characteristic black suit and a bow tie with his signature oversized head and round black eyes. The figure stands 3.75 inches or 10cm high and was part of the POP Funko category.
The company launched just 12 grails in 2013 at a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive. Early recipients got their figurines for as low as $773.51. Today, Freddy Funko in a black suit has a street value of $12,390, making it one of the most expensive Funko Pop.
5. Freddy Funko (Red Hair)/Boba Fett
The red-haired variant of Freddy Funko, also known as Boba Fett, is one of the character’s rarest and most valuable versions. This figurine first got into the hands of collectors in 2014 at an exclusive San Diego Comic-Con event. The company only released 24 mascots, meaning only a few lucky collectors could get a hold.
Because of this rarity, it’s one of the most sought-after Funko Pop grails. Another reason for the high demand is that it depicts the Star Wars character Boba Fett, who first appeared in the 1980 film “The Empire Strikes Back.” He quickly became a fan favorite because of his cool armor and mysterious backstory.
The Boba Fett character appeared in numerous books, comics, and video games, often delineated as a bounty whiter working for various criminal organizations. Only a few collectors have sold these figurines. As of 2022, they had an estimated price of $11,390, up from $2,620 in 2020. However, a collector reportedly sold a piece for $13,320.
Bottom Line
Alex DeLarge from Clockwork Orange (Glow in The Dark) is the most expensive Funko Pop worldwide. The mascot has a market value of $48,450. The highest it has ever sold for was $32,436, which also set the precedence for such a high market valuation.
Besides Alex DeLarge from Clockwork Orange (Glow in The Dark), we also have other expensive Funko Pops.
