Now it’s time to take an in-depth look at both the DeWalt 20V Max and Ego 56V mowers. Models

Also, keep in mind that the DeWalt needs both batteries for it to work. In addition, the Ego does not have a second battery slot for extended cutting times.

Deck

The Ego mower has a 21-inch deck, while the DeWalt actually has a 21,5-inch deck with single metal blades. The size difference is minor, so you shouldn’t put too much emphasis on it. There are some high-end models that use cross-cut technology, which refers to having two blades stacked on top of each other. However, the single-blade design is still sufficient, and the blades are replaceable.

One significant difference is that the DeWalt’s deck is steel, while the Ego’s is a composite material. Ego also makes a mower with a steel deck, but it costs more. Each deck is also adjustable with a single lever, so you don’t have to mess around with trying to keep it level. One pleasant addition to the Ego deck is the included light so that you can cut at night.

This will keep the blade engaged, but you will need to use a separate control for the self-propelled wheels.

Another commonality between the two mowers is that both fold for easy storage and mobility. The handles fold down, and you can literally stand it upright or put it in the back of a car without an issue. One noticeable difference in operation is that the Ego’s rear wheels spin while the DeWalt’s front wheels spin.

Pricing

With that said, the DeWalt is more than capable; however, it is lacking when compared to more powerful mowers such as the Ego.

In addition, the Ego has a great price point of around $480. Although you can likely find it at a cheaper price, this base price is still significantly cheaper than DeWalt. One place where the DeWalt outshines the Ego is its cut time of 60 minutes. However, you can purchase an additional battery for the Ego if you feel it is necessary, and it will still be cheaper than the DeWalt.

It is nice that DeWalt also has a steel deck, but we don’t feel this is worth the additional price, not to mention you can still purchase an Ego with a steel deck if necessary. But there is one instance where you should definitely purchase the DeWalt, and that is if you already own tools in their 20 Volt line because then you can use your existing batteries rather than getting into another platform.
