Asus ROG Azoth Review
The Asus ROG series was created with the idea of elevating the gaming experience by creating keyboards that are powerful yet versatile.
Design
The Asus ROG Azoth is handsome in design, with a rounded look. It’s constructed out of aluminum top housing and plastic bottom, which contributes to its robust build.
The ROG Azoth design also features a relatively basic layout. It’s a 75% keyboard, meaning it doesn’t come with the number keypad to the side and takes up about 75% of a traditional keyboard because there are only 84 keys compared to the usual 104. It also includes standard mechanical switches. In addition, the ROG Azuth features dedicated arrow keys and navigation keys on the right side. However, like most 75% keyboards, it lacks the gap in rows, which makes room for the OLED display.
With multiple sound-dampening foams, no one will likely even know you’re gaming, as your keystrokes will be as quiet as they are smooth.
Straight out of the box, you can tell it’s built to last due to its weight and premium build enhanced by a top metal plate and durable PBT keycaps.
The Asus ROG Azoth keyboard is highly customizable and features an easy-to-modify construction. As for accessories, you get a basic but easy key-changing kit which includes a keycamp puller, three stabilizer mats, and a lube brush and lube station. A ROG switch opener, puller, and 3 ROG NX switches. It also includes a USB dongle, extender, and cable.
Display
One of the first things you may notice is the 2-inch OLED display in the upper right-hand corner. This display is highly customizable and can show multiple items simultaneously, including brightness, caps lock, connection mode, profile, operating system mode, and battery level.
The Asus ROG Azoth allows you to customize display animations, texts, banners, and CPU temperature within the Armoury Cart software.
Different modes allow you to toggle volume up and down, lighting modes, and OLED brightness. You can also customize this using the Armoury Cart software.
Ports and Connectivity
You can charge the ROG Azoth keyboard using the included USB-C to USB-A cable that is 6.5 feet long.
You can connect the ROG Azuth to up to three devices via Bluetooth and even an additional one using the 2.4 GHz wireless connection. To connect using the latter, remove the receiver that is inside the keyboard and plug it into a USB-A port. You can also use the ROG Azoth with a wired connection.
Storage
The Asus ROG Azoth comes with a six-profile storage capacity. This storage capacity means you can move the keyboard around, have others use it and make adjustments, and use your saved profile to get back to your preferred settings.
Software
The ROG Azoth comes with handy secondary shortcuts (Fn), which are conveniently shown on the underside of the keycaps. Some presets are profile switching, brightness adjustment, and macro recording. When combined with the OLED screen, this keyboard can do a lot without you ever needing to install any software.
However, if you want to customize things like lightning modes, or even the OLED screen itself, you will need to install Armoury Crate.
Once you’ve installed Armoury Crate, you can re-program almost every key on the Azoth. However, there doesn’t seem to be a way to program secondary, Fn shortcuts. This can be an issue if you find the 75% keyboard lacking and want to choose which keys do what.
In addition to using the Armoury Crate software to customize the OLED screen, you can also use it to make the OLED screen’s control knob a switch to cycle through system volume and the brightness on both the keyboard and OLED screen. You can also customize the OLED screen to display animations, text banners, date/time, and system information.
Not everyone likes Armoury Crate software. Some people find it to be buggy and unintuitive. If you’re using the Armoury Crate software to update your Asus ROG Azoth keyboard, you may run into issues such as crashes, or you may find you need to reinstall the software a few times. While the software isn’t perfect, it may be worth suffering through for this top-notch gaming keyboard.
Battery life
If you need a keyboard to last you through marathon gaming sessions, look no further. The ROG Azoth is reported to last up to 2,000 hours on a fully charged battery over a 2.4GHz wireless connection. However, Asus says you should not use the OLED screen or lighting features to get this long life from the battery.
