Key Points
- Discord can be a useful app for connecting professionally and casually, but sometimes you may want to appear offline while remaining connected.
- Appearing offline on Discord allows you to take a break and avoid interruptions while still being able to receive messages and join chats.
These days, it can be really difficult to keep up with everything that demands our attention. Whether we’re working or relaxing during our free time, there always seems to be something we need to respond to. Emails, social media posts, texts, DMs — the list goes on and on. While Discord can be a wonderful app for connecting both professionally and casually, sometimes you just want to “disconnect”… while remaining connected. Maybe you want to avoid particular people, enjoy a distraction-free conversation, or host a livestream without any interruptions. Whichever way you cut it, we all know that taking a break once in a while can do wonders for your mental health. With that said, we’re going to show you how to appear offline on Discord, so you can keep updated at your own pace. Let’s jump in!
How to Appear Offline on Discord on Desktop
First, we’re going to reveal the steps you need to take to appear offline on Discord if you’re using it on your computer.
Step 1: Log in to Discord
As you may expect, the first step is to make sure you’re logged in. Go ahead and open Discord, then enter your login details if required (if you feel like editing your details, check out our article for changing your Discord password).
Step 2: Change Your Visibility Settings
The next step is, in fact, the last step. All you need to do is click your profile name in the bottom-left corner to bring up a list of options. If you hover over “Online”, a submenu will appear. Here, you can simply click “Invisible”. This will change your status to appear offline, but you’ll still be able to access the whole of Discord at your own leisure. Alternatively, you can click “Idle” or “Do Not Disturb”, if those are more your thing (Do Not Disturb is great for not receiving any pesky notifications). All done! Don’t worry; you’ll still receive messages with this status and join chats. Whenever you like, you can go back to the same place to change your status. And you’ll still be able to see other people’s status, unless, of course, they’re invisible as well.

How to Appear Offline on the Discord Mobile App
The process for appearing offline on the Discord mobile app is also very simple, but with a few subtle differences. Follow the steps below to do this.
Step 1: Log in to Discord
As before, open up the Discord app and log in if you haven’t already.
Step 2: Go to Account Settings
Next, tap the smiley face icon in the bottom-right corner. This will open your profile settings.

Step 3: Appear Offline
Lastly, tap the “Set Status” tab at the very top of the menu. This will bring up a similar menu as before at the bottom. Here, you can choose from the same status options. Just tap “Invisible”, and you’ll appear offline on Discord for as long as you like.
