Anker vs. Jackery: Which Power Station Brand Is Better?

Key Points

  • Anker and Jackery both offer power stations in various capacities.
  • Anker power stations tend to be heavier but have faster charging times, while Jackery power stations are lighter and have longer battery life.
  • Anker power stations use LiFePO4 batteries, which have a larger capacity and less impact on the environment.
  • Jackery power stations have lithium batteries that can last for 500 or more charges over three years.

Anker is a leading brand in power banks. However, they’re slowly making a name for themselves in power stations. The company offers several options that range from small-capacity camping accessories to large-capacity power stations built for backup power. Additionally, they have ingenious offerings such as a powered cooler. While Anker is gaining a following for power stations, Jackery is a well-known and trusted brand. Jackery products have a reputation for being well-made, sturdy, yet lightweight power stations. They’re also known for their long battery life and quick charging times. Both brands have similar capabilities, but how do they compare? Which is better? This article will explore Ankers and Jackerys in each category to find which power station brand is better.

Please note that we will only review one of the top-rated versions in each category. The categories refer to the power station’s battery capacity in low, mid, and high capacity ratings.

Anker vs. Jackery: What’s the Difference?

When choosing a power station, it’s crucial to look not only at the brand differences but also the individual product differences. Most people want to know the pros and cons of the products available and how their designs and features compare to others.

Product Lineup

Anker and Jackery both offer several power station options. These options start at low-capacity stations perfect for charging things like computers, phones, and other personal items. They also have options for mid-size, large, and extra large-capacity power stations. These mid and large stations are better for powering large appliances and backup power for your home.

We should also note that you can buy a solar panel as a bundled option. Solar panels allow you to charge your power station using the sun’s power without depending on electricity or your running vehicle.

Low Capacity Power Stations

Anker’s low-capacity power station, the Anker PowerHouse 521, is touted as the best entry-level low-capacity power station. It features a car charger outlet, one USB-C port, two USB-A ports, and two AC outlets. Similar to the PowerHouse 521 is the Jackery Explorer 240. The Explorer 240 features a more lightweight but just as sturdy design, yet it offers less battery life. However, because the 240 is more portable, with comparable outlets and ports, the small amount of extra battery life isn’t worth it for these small-capacity power stations.

Mid-Capacity Power Stations

When looking at mid-capacity power stations, the Anker PowerHouse 535 has more ports and offers more battery capacity than the Jackery Explorer 500. Again, like the smaller power stations, the Jackery is lighter and has 518Wh. It takes a slight lead over the PowerHouse, which only offers a 512Wh battery capacity. However, if the number of ports is significant to you, the Anker PowerHouse 535 features four AC outlets, two USB-A ports, and two USB-C ports. However, the Jackery Explorer 500 includes only one AC outlet and three USB-A ports.

Large Capacity Power Stations

The spec trends continue as we look at the large and extra-large capacity power stations for both Jackery and Anker. While Jackery tends to be lighter and more portable, the Anker offers more ports and connections. The Jackery Explorer 1000 is just 22.4 pounds, but the 1002Wh battery life is less than the Anker Solix F1200 at 1229Wh. However, the Anker outweighs the Jackery by over 20 pounds. When it comes to ports, the Anker has a significant advantage with almost twice the number of ports of the Jackery.

Extra-Large Capacity Power Stations

When it comes to capacity on the extra-large power stations, Jackery is the clear winner here. For example, the Jackery 2000 Pro features a 2160Wh capacity, while the Anker Solix F2000 features only 2048Wh. However, once again, the Anker reigns supreme when it comes to ports, offering a total of 12 compared to the Jackery’s 10.

Design

Anker states that their power stations are meant to withstand the elements and be virtually drop-proof. The digital readouts are clear and easy to read and include more detail when compared to most of the Jackerys on this list.

The Anker power stations have a well-placed LED light to help you see the power station and the area around it, but the Jackerys tend to have it on the side, which works more like a flashlight.

While Anker’s design typically looks more sleek and modern, Jackerys look like they were made for the rugged outdoor life. Both look sturdy enough to withstand being dropped or rained on. Also, they are either fire-resistant or fireproof, depending on the model.

Weight

Another primary concern when searching for a power station is their weight. You’ll want something portable or something you can carry from your garage to your car without struggling. The Anker is almost always heavier than the comparable Jackery. For example, the Anker PowerHouse 521 weighs 9.57 pounds, while the Jackery Explorer 240 weighs 6.6 pounds.

Similarly, the Anker SOLIX F2000 weighs 67.2 pounds, and the Jackery 2000 Pro weighs 61.5 pounds. Those extra pounds can add up if you’re in a hurry or camping in the backcountry.

Charging time

The Anker PowerHouse 521 says it can charge a smartphone 20 times, a computer 3.5 times, and power a lamp for 31 hours. These times make the PowerHouse 521 perfect for weekend getaways or camping trips.

When it comes to charging the power station, Ankers tend to have fewer recharge times. For example, the Anker 521 will take around two and a half hours to recharge fully, while the Jackery Explorer 240 can take up to five and a half hours. If we look at the high-capacity power station, the Anker SOLIX F2000, it takes about an hour and a half to fully recharge using AC power. On the other hand, the Jackery Explorer 2000 takes about two hours.

Battery Life

Anker power stations use a LiFePO4 battery. These batteries have a larger battery capacity and less impact on the environment. Their low-impact feature is why you can find LiFePO4 batteries in electric vehicles

If we look at the high-capacity Anker power station, they have a long battery life, but not necessarily more extended than the Jackery. For example, the Anker SOLIX F2000 has a battery life of ten years, with a life cycle of 3000, leaving the battery at 80%.

All Jackery power stations have lithium batteries. Lithium will last for 500 or more charges over three years. After that time, you may find that your battery only has 80% of its original capacity.

The Jackery Explorer 2000 has a battery life of up to ten years, even with daily use. And after 4000 cycles, the lithium battery will be at around 70%. The power station can also be left on standby mode for a year without draining any power. These battery stats make the Jackery one of the most dependable backup batteries and power stations.

Anker vs. Jackery: 4 Must-Know Facts

  • Most of the Anker power stations weigh more than the Jackerys.
  • Both the Jackery and Anker power stations charge devices quickly, but the Anker tends to charge most devices faster.
  • All Jackery power stations have lithium batteries, while Anker uses a LiFePO4 battery.
  • LiFePO4 batteries are known to be more environmentally friendly and last longer than lithium batteries.

Anker vs. Jackery: Which One Is Better? Which One Should You Use?

Both the Anker and Jackery power stations are solid choices. Both brands are well-known. However, Anker is relatively new when it comes to power stations. After reviewing the specs for each offering within the pricing tiers, it’s clear that Anker is typically heavier in weight but makes up for it in faster charging times.

For long-term use, you’ll want to choose an Anker power station, as they use long-lasting LiFePO4 batteries. However, if it’s more important to have a lightweight power station that lasts for years without a charge, Jackery power stations are better. Both power stations will last about a decade, too.

Finally, while Anker is a well-known brand in power banks, Jackery has the benefit of being a popular, well-respected brand with thousands of loyal customers. Both feature a drop-resistant, compact, and rugged design that holds up to the elements. Because both brands offer comparable power stations with similar prices, it’s best to look at other features, such as the digital readout or the well-placed LED on the Anker power stations.

Jackery may be the better choice for quickly charging your electronics while camping or at home. However, consider an Anker if you live in a van or need a long-term powering solution.
