2023 Audi e-tron vs. 2023 Tesla Model X: How They Compare and What You Must Know

The Audi e-tron and Tesla Model X are both great EV choices, but there are some distinctions that you should know about. To start, both vehicles are all-electric SUVs.

Although the luxury SUV market is getting pretty crowded, the E-Tron and Model X remain relatively unchanged, and some feel they are both starting to show their age. With that said, these are still two solid choices in the electric SUV lineup.

Let’s take an in-depth look at the features, interior and exterior appearance, and performance of these two SUV EVs to get the full picture.

2023 Audi e-tron vs. 2023 Tesla Model X: What’s the Difference?

Tesla is by far the best-known electric car manufacturer. Much of the notoriety is from their bold designs and flashy gimmicks. In comparison, Audi is popular in the luxury car market, so it only made sense that they got into the EV business. The main difference between the two vehicles is that the Model X has a lot of flashy extras, whereas the e-ton feels more high-end.

Let’s dive deeper into their key differences.

Exterior

The old saying that you don’t get a second first impression really stands true with these vehicles, and the Model X truly stands out from the pack. The Model X is well known for its gull-wing rear doors, and it still looks very futuristic compared to the e-tron, which has seemingly aged poorly. With that said, the e-tron doesn’t look bad, but it does resemble a larger car rather than an SUV.

Both are very curvy and don’t have a lot of hard lines. The backside of the Model X does look like a trunk rather than an SUV with a liftgate and even has a spoiler. In comparison, the backside of the e-tron closely resembles a hatchback rather than an SUV. The e-tron overall looks more like a car, as its ground clearance and interior height are closer to that of a sedan.

Interior

Moving inside the vehicles, the e-tron actually edges out the Model X because it is so luxurious. Everything in the Audi feels very refined, and it is an overall good vehicle to drive. It also has multiple screens. There are optional massaging seats, and numerous other features that you can tell are designed to be driven.

The Model X, on the other hand, looks very impressive. Unlike the e-tron, it has a front storage compartment which is nice, and the main interior area just feels roomier. The backseat area is really nice with second-row captain’s chairs and even a 3rd-row of seats, so it carries a total of seven passengers.

The driver’s area is really nice and looks like something out of a spaceship, but it may not be the most practical or natural. One of the coolest parts of the Model X is its massive windshield that offers maximum visibility. Another unique part of the interior is the half-steering wheel which looks like something out of a plane.

Features

Features are where these two vehicles really stand apart. The Audi has many more luxury features, many of which are add-ons. In comparison, the Tesla also has plenty of features, but they are more centered around the user experience. Better put, Tesla really emphasizes the software aspect of their cars and how it integrates with the driver.

Some of these little details on the Model X include the door popping when you walk up to it. Then, when you enter the vehicle, all you have to do is put your hands on the wheel and start driving. Of course, Teslas are also known for their self-driving options, and there are options you can choose from depending on your needs and wants.

While Teslas have a lot going for them in the way of features, the Audi e-tron has all-digital controls, with the exception of the start button. There is a head-up display, and there is good lighting throughout, which helps illuminate different areas. While not a feature, all of the surfaces in the e-tron feel exceptionally high-quality. Even the plastics feel solid, and most aluminum-looking surfaces really are made of metal.

Performance

The Audi e-tron and Tesla Model X provide a lot of power that is sure to get you wherever you need to go. They also both feature a number of driving modes that can help tailor the experience. However, the Model X is by far faster as it is super snappy. With that in mind, the e-tron is designed for daily driving but can easily pass people on the highway.

2023 Audi E Tron vs. 2023 Tesla Model X: Which One is Better?

Unlike many car comparisons, this one is pretty cut and dry. Both vehicles certainly offer plenty of features with a lot to like. However, the nearly $50,000 difference between the two makes it difficult to recommend the Model X.
